    Well the whole thing started at the usually yearly skiing with my friends in Austria.
    Adras has mentioned back a while ago that he has seen a small article of a guy using wiper motors to drive a small rig.
    Read through he's article but it was way too messy for me, board creation etc.. so I started digging the net.
    Hence ended up here by findig the video of the Crate rig by @Scratch.
    From there on after reading through he's building notes and @RacingMat tutorial (http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/how-to-connect-potentiometer.13/) Pot installation tutorial together the excellent diagram from eaorobbie http://www.xsimulator.net/community...3dof-motor-driver-and-windows-utilities.4957/I was feeling confident on starting.

    Got my wiper motors from a local car parts shop, its a VW wiper motor made by Febi, the two brand new with 1 year warranty were about 40EUR.
    My power source is a 12V 30A led strip power supply for about 25EUR:

    The base of the frame is from 30x30 box tubing, I got about 16.4 meters for the base frame, the wheel stand and the seat, cirka 35EUR.

    For sure at first it will not be as fancy as some builds here, but with enough fanatic attitude I can improve! :p
    The joint that will keep the seat is from a scrapyard, I was told it was a steering extension rod for some car. Gave about 10 EUR for it.

    Thanks for this, I have actually taken apart my wipers so when we will be wiring with my electrician friend I will ask him to ground this professionally. I would rather stay away from the 12v :)

    Nothing wrong with farming bits out where needed. Some electrical work is inevitable with a sim, but it is pretty straight forward and at least 12V is safe.

    Th steering uni joint will be fine, just make sure it is welded securely as it takes some punishment in actual use.

    Do you recon I should get additional welds for the joint?
    I rather not have my ass drilled through by a join while racing heavily :)

    The photo is not really clear but on the base of the post facing the viewer it did not look like it had been welded all the way around, though that may just be discoloration and my poor eyesight. Pays to check though.

    Managed to get my ball joints and the 1 meter long treaded rod, tomorrow we are preparing the electrical connection with the two 10K Ohm potmeter which can take up to 0,4 W. Hope it will last! IMAG0177.jpg IMAG0179.jpg

    I'am only concerned about the extension rod weld, the other seem fine to me too.
    Unfortunately they are not cement ones, those had a cost arount 10 EUR which I felt too much as the motors were 20 EUR, so I got these to test. They are mid level, not the cheapest but not the most expensive... Hopefully they will hold! :)

    Well got a little held up by my electritian friend so so electornics for me this weekend... Pretty disappointed, but the again growing up means you have to learn patience!
    Until then managed to "learn" how to sharpen a drill bit on a desk grinder using no special tools and have built up the seat to the cage holding it.
    The cage had a bad angle so I have corrected that yesterday with my friend :)
    Hopefully the electornics will be ready on Monday and I can start programing the Arduino!

    Not sure, but my though was to have the joint near my weight center (I thought when sitting down that should be near my buttom?!) so that it would be easier for the motor to move me back and fort.
    Is my method wrong?

    Agree with @noorbeast that won't work very well, the balance point for a seat mover is closer to being under your bottom, not at the back of it. Take the seat part off the rig and sit on it with a round pipe under it, you will soon find the correct balance point/position to affix your uni joint.
