Excited to be posting this. Should be testing out the sim this weekend, and wanted to get a build thread started. So far this is what I’ve had to buy:
    • x1 arduino Uno R3 (rexqualis off brand)
    • x2 IBT-2 BTS7960 43amp
    • x2 24v 250w 13.4a 75rpm wheelchair motors
    • x1 24v 1000w 42amp power supply (have voltage set to 18.5v, to protect the ibt2’s)
    • x2 “motoforti” tie rods
    • x3 8ft 2x4’s from the local hardware store.
    • x1 Mazda Miata driveshaft(cut and welded flare plate to one end)
I was lucky enough to be able to purchase everything on Amazon, short of the wood and driveshaft.
The motors are hooked up and have been tested with SMC3, just have to join the motion platform to the base, and I’ll be on my way to getting on it for the first time.
Here are a few pics from earlier this week. Any tips or questions are 100% welcomed!
Crossing my fingers I’m able to get the simtools without forking out another $50. Is the 30 day account minimum 100%? (I finished the sim way faster than expected lol)

Got it all mounted up. Putting together the lever arms and control arms now!

just got everything done. hooked it up to SMC3 and got movement! but now my problem is the motors are spinning freely, even when i shut down SMC3. is this a pot sensor issue?

The pot provides positional feedback. I presume it is connected to the motor and correctly wired but want to confirm that is indeed correct?

they are connected to the arduino, but not mounted to the motors no. thats what made me think was causing the uncontrolled movment. but the rig continues to move even in "monitor" mode, and when i close out of SMC3Utils. i have to disconnect power to stop it.
working on the pots now. The first 80% of movent barely moves the green line, and the last 20% shoots the line straight to the top. assuming thats just bad wiring on my end?

Please connect the pot shaft to the motor shaft and also post pictures of all of your SMC3 settings.

Ended up ordering some new pot sensors. I was trying to use some really cheap ones that came in my arduino kit. Couldn’t get them to work properly. Have to wait a couple of days for shipping now, in the meantime what’s everyone using for lever arms? Right now I’ve got 1.5in steel tube I cut a hole, and slot in. It works, but I’d like something a little more durable and better looking lol. Thank for any help.

Got it moving around. Got in it, and it’s a little unbalanced. Make sure y’all don’t make the center of gravity too high!

just go the new POT sensors in. got one hooked up, and it works! but can i adjust the sensitivity of them? they are super slow. a 90 degree turn only barely makes the green line in SMC3 move. (at least is even movement now)

Nice to hear! I have no idea about technically calibrating the pot.meters to be more sensitive. I can only imagine some sort of gearing, like bicycle sprocket sizes. This ofcourse depend on how you mounted it.

I have a 1:1 ratio. Hope it works out. The shaft from the motor will only operate in half a revolution on my build so I hope the pots are sensitive enough for this.

Postet a photo of my current assambely for some clearification :)

had some time today to mess with the rig. got it moving around with smc3, and was just tweaking with it to get it smooth. after some trial and error, i got it smooth enough to where i wanted to hop in it and see how it felt. well for some reason when i put my weight on the motors they act like they can not support my weight. they drop all the way to max limit bottom and shuts the motor off. after a couple of tries i managed to snap a tie rod because the extra movement broke the pot mount, resulting in endless spinning of the motor.. face palm.. anyone else have any issue like this? ill post a picture of my SMC3 settings right below this.
