    Hello,

So today I started welding the frame for my 2dof AC project, my aim is to build a 2 man flight simulator.

Much like Tom and his 3dof project, im sure ill be needing help with the electrics soon enough!!!

Will post some pics as I go along

    Hi Mitch,
GREAT that you have started and it's looking fine my friend . Wish I had built mine the same way...LOL
We'll, we will probably be building the electronics at the same time . I know the folks here will keep us on the right path. Keep posting.
    have a blessed one. Tom

Top frame looking nice and strong, Looking good so far.
Yes exciting to see a couple of 240v sims coming to life here at Xsimulator.net.
    Well done guys.

    Thanks for the comments,

been working on it again this morning. Progress is slow as ive been sourcing some parts and other bits, still havent got everything yet (motors & all other electronics)

But have finished most of the frame just needs to be put together.

    Base frame:

Welding the uni joint to the centre rod

Going to put some support bars up against the centre rod but will only weld these in when I know where the motors are going and how much room they take up

    Hi Mitch,
    Good to hear from you.
Yes, looks to be at about same pace.
Wife and I have had "walking pneumonia" for the past ten days. Just starting to see a little improvement after seeing doctor yesterday. Just really haven't felt like getting into it...but will soon.
Stay in touch and "looking good".

Starting to actually look like a platform now.

I am going to weld some support arms up to the centre rod but only when I know the size of the motors & where they are going so I know ill have enough space, coming along nicely though..

Now its time to order the motors... The expensive bit!!!

    Hi Mitchell,
I don't have my top platform made yet. Working out pots, placement of gearheads, need to order special compression spring to assist in heave function.
Spent last two weeks with "walking pneumonia", wife also, JUST starting to feel 1% better. Haven't wanted or felt like doing anything.

You're doing an excellent job with the frame. Like your welding skills.
As you say, now the expensive stuff and "fun" begins with placement etc.

Stay in touch and thank you so much for the update.

Hi Mitch ... nice welding work ... Sorry for late answer I see no one did ... AC Motors breaking is not needed since you're using a gear box with motors ... and a fixed height u-joint center support ... Is this for two players platform ?

@cthiggin ... correct me if I'm wrong here ... The frame is too thin I guess ... too much high with a narrow base that could flip to side when rolling ... I guess the rectangle base frame parts should be welded using the rectangle long side upright " what is it called technically ? " to wet stand the bending force that will happen .

Hi Mitch - Hello Speedy -
First, I must agree with @speedy, I hope you re-evaluate your base platform for the following reasons: SUPPORT

I would like to "humbly" suggest a thought here. BASED on the fact Mitch that you're going to have two occupants at times - Based on the Height of your center support - "Me thinks" you may be in
trouble - I don't think the base is heavy-duty enough to withstand the top platform from tipping over - which of course, you do not want. Now I am not suggesting that it "should be like mine" - but
again, with the height of your center support, two occupants - I would have gone with a minimum of 1.5" steel square tube or even better, 2" square tube - then you would be much safer - Widening the
base would also help - IMHO, the ONLY resolution to the way you have it now - is to drill anchors in your concrete floor and bolt your platform DOWN.

I am sorry that I "missed" the two occupants and didn't pay enough attention to the height of your center post.

    Have a blessed one,
    Tom

Looks like its back to the drawing board for the base then..

Do you think a similar shape to the top frame would be ok, maybe just a little bigger?

Hi Abdo, thanks for answering my question about the braked motors.

    Hi Mitch,
That's how we learn. If I hadn't asked questions here in the beginning, I would have a dangerous Albatross on my hands.

@speedy asked me what it was called - Center of Gravity.

Good luck in modifying and stay in touch with all of us.

    Have a blessed one,
    Tom

PS - Mitch, just remember that you're going to be supporting a "lot" of top platform weight. I "know" your welding is very good, but we can't be too safe... for "me" I would start and use heavier frame material. Here in the US, we have a saying: "You cannot make Chicken Salad out of Chicken Manure"........You did your best, so don't feel bad...you want to make corrections and be the rights ones - SAFETY first friend.

PSSSSS - You may want to consider shortening your center post - you do NOT have to have that height in order to get good degrees of movement. You can always move your motors "in" towards the center and achieve more degrees. That's what the heavies told me here - and because of that, I will have +- 14 degrees. My center support is 11" - and inside that my spline tube will accommodate a total of 8" travel, up/down - based on the fact that I am using 4" centers crank-arms.
