    Hi everyone,

It's a work in progress for me as I am building the motion platform slowly (only a few hours during the weekends). I live in a small apartment on the 9th floor, and use only a jigsaw and drill to work - Cuts are not perfect, but everything is working fine so far.

Many thanks to Roman Design, SCK gaming, Flying Doc (A320), DMax, Pmvcda, Attyla.pl, Smitty and of course Noorbeast, as well as members of the community for your help and inspiration.

1st step is nearly complete - that would be the motion platform.
2nd step would be the seating part.

Will update the thread with progress photos.

ps: my apartment floor is covered with foam mats as we have small children.

Lower the supply voltage from 24V to as low as you can set with the potentiometer in the power supply, IBT 2 bridges are easily damaged when supplied with 24V, SCK gaming wrote about this in their motion sim build thread. In smc3 utils set Fpwm to no more than 25kHz. smc3utils 25 FPwm.png

    Hi Attyla, thanks heaps.
Yes, I haven't fine tuned the system yet - hopefully this weekend, i'll have the top platform and will be able to sit and adjust.
At the moment, i have set the voltage at 18.5v; i'll follow your advice for the 25Hz. Most probably, I'll revert back on this thread (or another) for fine tuning the motion.

At the moment, I'm breaking my head for the seat part as I weigh 95 kgs + need to keep the design light and discrete. I intend to have a pad for the throttle + mouse, and another one for the sidestick.

So all in all, finer adjustments are required (SMC3 + flypt).

I stumbled on Lebois Racing's Flypt tutorial (in french) which is quite instructive - Posting it here for ref.

    Thanks again.

For 2DOF to work properly remember to balance the top of the motionsim carefully,.
That is, you construct the top part of the motion sim , mount the seat, joystick throttles , rudder and whatever else is to be mounted there
put something rotating on the floor under the motionsim and sitting in it, you are looking for a point in which you will have more or less balance (it is advisable to assist another person :) )
Looking at the pictures you posted I don't really understand what size your 2DOF will be or could you post a drawing from simcalc program ?

The motion platform is 400 x 500 mm,roughly the size of a chair seat. The top part will be the size of a chair with the back at most at a 10 deg incline. My feet will be on the floor, so i've kept the cg mainly around the navel area.

Most probably it'll be trial and error as the distances are short and i won't be having the moment as yours (and also i haven't used simcalc !)

I'll also limit the travel movement as i'll be mainly playing flight sim - only little movement required.

I'll post photos as i go.
It might not be optimally balanced, but it'll work. I don't have much choice as space is a limitation.

Build update. Platform added and centered. I put it on some fridge caster wheels to move it around for the time being.

I need to build a case around the motor and wiring. Hope i can do it during these 2 days, else it'll be in Jan 25 as i'm taking a brake.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year 2025

Building the housing for the motors and controller. I placed foam inside to hopefully reduce the sound once i close the box.
It will have vents, hopefully it won't get hot enough to be a fire hazard. !

Completed 2Dof compact chair for MSFS.

I used a seat shell from IKEA - Loberget - it looks like a bucket seat. I'm not going to use it for combat flights nor racing, more of soft movements from my end (airliners or GA aircraft).

I wanted to use a GoKart seat, but it was black and the attachment points were not flat, so the Loberget shell works fine for me.

As for the controls (Joystick/ throttle/ mouse), i'm using a laptop tray - everything works well in VR; and I have a USB hub inside of the unit itself.

Thanks everyone for your help, i hope this tiny build inspires others.

    Great job :thumbs

When you get the chance a video of your rig in action would be awesome!

2 short videos to demo the seat.

It is quite compact, the seat which i used is quite flexible though. I wouldn't recommend it.

I did not trim the platform to size, in the hope that one day i get a larget space and can use a proper seat.

    Until then, thanks again.

    Take good care hug:
