    My Motion Simulator:
    3DOF, DC motor, Arduino
The journey began back in October 2024 when I bought the SIM from a nearby town. What caught my attention was that it came with three 32" monitors, a racing seat setup with a G29 wheel, modded pedals, and all the electronics needed to run the motors. The guy I bought it from had gotten it from someone else and had no idea if it even worked. I paid $800, plus a 2-hour road trip and the cost of a Coke and a sandwich along the way.

Once I got home, I set it up and tried it out with F1 22. Then came the challenge of getting the motors to run. Since they’re 24V, a regular PC power supply didn’t work — I needed a dedicated one. But I couldn’t find the motor specs, like how many amps they required. So I took a gamble and bought a 15A power supply, hoping it would work. For two motors, it kind of does — we’ll see if it can handle the third one when the components arrive, or if I’ll need to upgrade it.

I had to swap out the Monster Moto Shields (not sure if it was just me, but they wouldn’t deliver 24V — only 12V no matter how I wired them) for something else, got everything configured and… nothing. No sign of life. Months went by and the project just sat there.

In January, I decided to give it another go. After reassembling everything, one motor finally moved — but it instantly shut off. The potentiometer was wired backward, and with SimTools, the motor only spun in one direction and then went out of range, triggering an OFF state. I read a lot and some people suggested it might be grounding through the chassis. I was about to open the motor up when I accidentally reversed the potentiometer wires for one last test — and eureka! The motor started working properly, spinning both ways and returning to center.

Then I tried to get the second motor running — and it worked! But when I connected both at the same time, one would stop working, then the other, and then neither would work (turns out it was due to some poorly soldered wires… total headache).

Now I’m just waiting on the parts for the third motor and planning to replace the board for the sequential shifter and handbrake, because Windows doesn’t detect them — seems like they might be fried or something.
