So I got most of the metal for free and thought to myself I could diy a sim rig out of recycling metal shelf. Just a simple one with traction loss. Trying to do this with spending as little money as possible.

Couldn't find a scrap drive shaft so i had to buy a power steering universal joint. Only 1" but seems to hold up ok at least for now.

3d printed a few parts. just some gt2 belt gears at a 1:1 ratio to connect the pot to the motor.

The seat I got for free from expired Rollercoaster seats. Seat rails/sliders are from an old gmc van.

Got most of the electronics off aliexpress. Which is looking like it will turn out to be a bad idea. The motors don't have enough holding power and is being back driven sloping down the front of the rig. I seem to be having issues with either the clone arduino uno r3 or the h bridge ibt2s as I can only get the motors to turn in one direction. Looks like the money I "saved" is wasted.

Pretty much got the frame built. Mostly welded. May still have to make some adjustments. Like the pedal area incline is too high. Might need to extend the shifter bracket a bit closer to the rear.

Right now, trying to figure out the electronics and software part of the project and having some issues.

Steering wheel and shifter are thrustmasters

I'm hoping oculus quest 2 will pair well with this.

This will basically only be for assetto corsa on pc.

All and all a pretty fun project. Considering the lack of correct tools and so much free handing, it still looks ok. Lol

I am looking forward to following along and see how it all comes together.

Replaced the arduino with a legit one. Fixed my issue of the motor only moving in one direction. However it also looks like I will need to replace 2 h bridges.

I can connect through smc3 tools but haven't been unable to connect through simtools for some reason

New h bridges came. Installed and everything works fine in smc3 utilities. However I still can't get any connection to sim tools game engine.

    Hopefully @noorbeast can help.

That worked thanks. Didn't have enough time to fully test it out this morning but at least that's connected.

I am getting some vibration in the pot readings (not completely steady green line in smc utility) causing the motor to wiggle back and forth just a tiny bit. Is there a setting I can tone down? Is this because I'm using a belt instead of gears for the pot? Could there be interference in the wiring? Or is this normal?

You can try setting a dead zone in SMC3.

Deadzone fix that right up. Burnt a h bridge board. What's going on? Also motors are extremely hot.

It could be a design or hardware issue, or a combination of both.

How well balanced is the rig, with you in it: https://xsimulator.net/community/faq/find-the-center-of-gravity-to-balance-a-motion-simulator.55/

What motors are use, where are they placed and what lever CTC distance is being used across what degree of rotation (effective torque utilization drops off rapidly over 38-40 degrees up and down)?

This is the motor I'm using. It might not be powerful enough I guess? It seems to be struggling. 12v 50:1 120rpm

The rocker arms are 95mm long. At rest it should sit parallel to the floor. Max turn up or down shouldn't be higher than 45 degrees

The motors are mounted to the front. Balance has been redone and is good now.

That is about 7nm, which is pretty week.

Do you mean the holes on the levers are 95mm apart (CTC), if so try around 50-60mm.

Something like wheelchair motors would likely be a better choice.

Yes something like that, but do have a play with the design aspects as well, as that is equally important.

hi I installed a shielded wire on the potentiometers, and I also had twitching due to the play of the potentiometer

Just wondering if you have made further project progress?

Not really, it's been cold and wet so haven't spent much time in the garage. It will continue though and I will continue to post as I progress
