    SCN6
    Hello Guys

I'm new to the forum and have been reading lots of posts trying to understand as much as possible before i ask my questions. I've just purchased a Vesaro Sim with out the D-Box motion package as you are all aware its £19k for the 6 inch version which is alittle strong i feel. After some research it turns out that i could possibly recreate this package for a fraction of the cost.

Ive looked at the Mirai Inter-tech SCN5 and SCN6 actuators ive notived that the SCN5 moves somewhat faster but only lifts 10kg wheres as the SCN6 40 150 will lift the required weight but with a slightly reduce speed is this speed loss a problem or is the SCN6 the actuator to buy.

Naturally in my search for a cheaper solution of the d-box stuff i found the flexGP site which is crazy cheap but is this a situation where you get what you pay for, they list SCN6 actuators for half what Mirai tech do, Im not trying to cut corners that much if the flex stuff isnt quality. They also make actuator to USB controllers dual and quad does anybody have experience with these products

Flex GP also offer a HyperAxis 100 custom actuator which has been mentioned here but i couldnt really work out weather someone rated it over a SCN6 setup is this kit a viable option or should i stick with SCN6 from Mirai tech, i do have good understanding of electronics and computers so putting everything together shouldn't be too much trouble after alot of reading and help from others.

If anyone has anything else they think i might know please feel free to share you wisdom, thank you kindly matt.

I see, obviously I didn't quite do enough reading I do apologise for the title it appears that I'm not after a 4DOF I'm after a 3DoF with lift is this correct.

Having seen and looked closely at the d-box system the actuators look almost identical to a SCN6 although I'm not suggesting they are.

How come d-box can produce an actuator exactly the same size but that much more powerful and know body else has done the same. Do d-box manufacturing there own actuators or out source them.

Also the hyper axis kit from flex suggests that there 100kg although only 100mm of moment and no information on speed is this kit worth considering ??

    Thanks Matt

@Matte , the dbox actuator is an expensive item, but yes, it does lift when there is 3 to 4 of them. Not sure why no one else has copied them. They started in movie motion chairs and then where adapted for motion simulator use.
SCN actuators cannot lift the same amount under direct load.
Not sure what hyperaxis kit you are talking about, do you have a link or exact wording to put in a search engine?
Back to 3DOF lift, with DC motors, preferably on an actuator build, you would need an assisted spring under the platform to help hold the weight.
It probably would work out cheaper than 3 dbox actuators, but would take more setting up.
Id guess youd need at least 24v motors realistically . Although work is being done with 12v motors, however, I suspect they would not respond as fast as dbox.
Anyhoo, lets see the hyper axis kit you are referring to.
    Cheers, David.

@bsft is right, a DC powered 3DOF with an assist spring will work, I have had a 130+kg test user on mine.

Theoretically a DC 4DOF seems possible on paper without a heave assist spring, near the Dbox specs of speed and load capacity, but it has never been done in practice and actual mechanical loss may be an issue. However there are now several DC 6DOF member rigs that do work well.

Simplicity, cost and performance wise the DC wormdrive combination is hard to beat, which is why they are popular here.
