Hey there. I’m new to the racing sim world and I know I have a LOT to learn. With that being said, I am looking into building a 6dof racing sim. Being in Canada, some pets are difficult to get. I am wondering if anyone has some links and basic info, kinda a 6dof 101. Things like basic fundamentals of driver position, size, strength and rigidity. I’m thinking of using linear actuators with quality motors. What have you found to be durable and worth the few extra dollars. Will extruded aluminum work? Or will bolts and what not loosen, or even the metal crack over time. Has anyone made a cockpit that can trans form to F1 and flight sim? So much to learn. Thanks for your input.

Any 6DOF is an ambitious and expensive project. So doing some research before getting in any deeper is time well spent.

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections, plus the 6DOF section, though given rapid evolution some of the latter is dated: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

As there have been many refinement to DIY actuator design and control board of late, search for specific 6DOF projects using the Google Custom Search function on the Recent page, then filter by date, that way you can quickly find the latest member approaches and advances: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/find-new/posts?recent=1
