Well, Im happy to say ive made progress on my AMC board (thanks tronic and others)

I found a short in my board, and now i get the 2 lcd lights lighting up, i am able to program the chip and everything is working great!

HOWEVER.. the LCD i just bought and connected lights up but nothign is on it.. no blocks. nothing.. althoug hte back light is on.

I just solidered the wires according to the LCD datasheet to the corraspoding spots on the AMC board. (ie the VCC to VDD, 0 to ground, db4 to db4 ect ect ect)

Can anyone give me hints on the LCD?

    Hi,

The R/W of the LCD should be connected to Ground... !!

If you still have problems with it take a look in this post on how to power the backlight directly from the powersupply, and use a potentiometer to fix the contrast (needed for most Blue LCD's...!)

i have now connected R/W to ground.

I am still getting the same problem. The back light comes on but nothing else. (no blocks or anything)

I will try connecting a pot to it as in ur post, however it is not a blue LCD its a standard Green one..

I also tried connecting A to +v nd K to gnd. however this didnt do anything differnet. (i didnt think this was the problem as the back light was coming on)

    i am using this lcd:

next step for me. (for the weekend coming) create the board with the pot.

    - Just an update. Since its not a blue LCD (its a green one) im assuming its not the pot issue..
I currently have the Contrast pin N/C to anything. I'll connect it to groudn and see how that goes.

    wahoo

    Wahoo, I figured it out.

I didnt have the contrast pin set to 0. It works now.

for those noobs (like me) who might have problems with their LCD this is the wiring i did to get mine to work.

Im onto the next step now!!! :) correct lcd.jpg
