    Welcome to the forum!

Judging by your coin balance @Mick I would suspect you've not really trawled many of the forums before posting your question.
That's fine, however you will find pretty much everything you are looking for if you look in the "showroom" section.

That section is positively brimming with ideas. There are no "DIY KITS" as such, but this website is pretty much a blueprint for any sim you care to build.

Thanks guys - Archie to address your assumption, I actually have been going through the forums the last 4 nights on my night shift ( I only made an account in the end to ask a question) thank you for your helpful and polite response though. I was just wondering, seeing you guys are both from Aus, would either of you be interested in building a motion sim for a commission? I'm based in Sydney BTW. Earobbie based off another forum, I recall you had a joyrider with no electrics? Would you be at all interested in attaching motors and selling it?

Hi @Mick - my apologies - We get a LOT of fly by night people on here, ask one question - never to be seen again.

Personally, I have neither the time nor the space to build another motion Sim, and I would not like to build one for someone else, purely because these are not a set and forget system. IMHO it would be opening a world to never ending support calls and ultimately litigation!

Something will always need to be tweaked. It's why this forum is DIY. Once you start going "commercial" you are in the thousands of $$$ area, just for support and bespoke software solutions so that the Sim powers on, fires up a game (another minefield of software licences) and is ready to "take it for a spin" with no user intervention.

My Sim works well but I'm always having to tweak something and check stuff everytime, just be certain its 1. Functional and 2. Safe....

Just curious, Are you looking to buy because you don't want to build one? What's your motivation?

Thanks again Archie for taking the time to post. I completely understand that - if I have had no hand in building it, how would I expect to know how to fix it.

To answer your question - The motivation to buy one is that it seems you can get a better DIY sim for a fraction of the price of a commercial sim ( Am i wrong?). I was considering the pagiani 2dof sim ($3000 aussie) but afew guys on the forums were saying it wasnt worth the money as they could build a much better sim for alot cheaper. In regards to building one myself, I am hopeless with DIY anything (I struggle to put a table together from ikea!). It seems a commercial sim maybe my only option at this stage..

@Archie is right about sims needing ongoing fine tuning.

Actually @Mick if you could put an Ikea table together, in other words follow (community) instructions/advice, then you could probably build a powerful DIY motion sim at half the commercial cost, but do you really want to? For many of us the build is as important/fun as the outcome, but that does not hold true for everyone.

Hey Noorbeast, I think I'd enjoy the build i'm just afraid to get outside of my skill depth and possibly get stuck..
The DIY 2dof in the "showroom" doesn't appear to be overly complex. Theres been afew suggestions on how he could improve that build so I guess I'm just going to have to do some more reading.

@Mick - I can fully sympathise, but I started my build after trawling the forums for weeks and building up enough "courage" to ask questions and get stuck in.
In the past, forums have been very "elitist" but not this place, everyone is willing to help.

I went from knowing ZERO to having a fully built Sim in about 6 weeks. And I mean Zero, could not weld. Motors seemed alien to me, and working out AXIS / DOF etc was a nightmare.

As @noorbeast pointed out, the fun for me was in the build. Trying something, it not working and then asking the forum for advice, going back, trying again... rinse repeat.

To repeat @noorbeast, if you can change oil on a car, change a wheel on a car, put anything written in "chin-glish" together, then you CAN build a Sim.

There are so many options as well, I think that can be a bad thing at times... just where do you start etc, however flesh out a few ideas in your head, ask us on here, and you will be amazed what you end up with!

@Mick - This is my build thread here:
    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/started-ordering-stuff-countdown-to-2dof-build.6177/

You can see how many questions I asked and what I ended up with, I went with a foot mount sim just because I saw a video featuring one, and the design stuck in my head. (sounds like you may have done the same)
Most members recommend a shoulder mount seat shaker, but it's a personal choice.
Having never sat in a Shoulder mount rig, I can't comment.

I know I am happy with my Foot mount Sim and how it turned out.

    Heres the foot motor

Or a PVC full frame could be an option as well, the one pictured has actuators, but DC motors will do fine.

...and this is how it starts. I can relate @Mick . Or though I have not taken time off work, every bit of spare time goes into my project. I actually forgot to have dinner the other day because I was sitting here reading up on things.

And yes, I did not know anything about motion simulators either until I started reading into it here. That was barely a month ago and I am well into the build by now.
