    Hi there!

I'm a bit head scratching, where to source the actuators for a 3dof build... I'm a bit intrigued with DMAX build, he uses those "hard to source here" sawmill motors with gearbox off eBay. I'm sitting here in Spain and not going to shell out the shipping the guy asks at ebay, after all, i have to pay on top of that import tax i guess. and that will run me expensive, 21% on top of everything.

I've been reading here some, and i come across a guy who claims that this setup could work with a preferably 24v windscreen wiper motor from a truck, if well balanced.

Instead, i was wondering about a 10:1 worm gear on a 24v 220w BLDC would work?
    • Output Max.Permissible Torque: 18Nm(159.31lb-in)
    • Output Max. Radial Load: 0.75kN

here are the products I'm considering:

If anyone from the EU knows a better solution that doesn't involve oversea shipping, i am happy to read about it :) Oh yes, it's for combat flight sim...

    Thanks

BLDC control board can be tricky to get working, and alternate likely local possibility would be secondhand wheelchair motors.

Like the ones off aliexpress like:
24V 250W 75rpm Low Speed Brush Motor With Electromagnetic Brake Hand Brake Longer Shaft Wheel Chair Used DC Gear Brushed Motor

Sorry can't post links in replies yet :---)
So same used in Keith's build?

Because those would be cheaper than "second hand" on ebay actually, and then i would have matched ones that i could upgrade if i choose to do so...

it's a bit frustrating that most don't provide holding torque rating (providers, ebay etc.). those specs would be intressting

    My Motion Simulator:
2DOF, 3DOF, DC motor, Motion platform
3DOF can be done with different configurations:

    • 2DOF+traction loss: Can be done with relatively cheap and not powerful motors like wipers or the wheelchair motors you posted. My 2DOF rig was builded with these wheelchair motors that brings max. 30Nm torque.

    • Pitch+roll+heave: To build this motion rig you will need lot more powerful motors than the wipers or the 250W motors, hard to find in Spain or the EU at a reasonable price. You will need a lot of torque to lift yourself and the structure. I'm on the way to "convert" my old 2DOF to this kind of rig and switch from two 250W motors to three 750W.

Keep in mind if you buy in the EU you'll pay double or more than if you buy in Asia. Is better buy in Asia even taking into account the shipping and (eventually) the import fees.

yeah, i come to the same conclusion yesterday

i went for the cheaper option, and am working on the ergonomics and interface until the motors arrive.

as of yet all crude, but it will eventually come together somehow :grin

thank you for the Nm spec, that gives me a number to fiddle around and get closer into ballpark.

i as of yet am not sure if i should make a hinge or rotate the chair itself on a suspended bearing. the later would be less demanding, save me another wheelchair motor and i cold instead use a wiper motor for it. the hinge version also needs additional rollers. but that could be interesting for racing sims, but also would result in a bigger footprint.

    process goes on....
