Let me be the first to say that while CanBus OBD2 Hacking, particularly of real world car systems, has its place, it also has its limitations as to where that intersects with motion rig simulation, and associated peripheral use.

That said, hacking real world automotive hardware has been done and can be exploited when it comes to DIY simulation, with many having advocated for such an approach for many years as a creative and cost effective approach: https://outlandnish.com/hacks/ditch-the-sim-rig-use-your-car-instead/

    CanBus is really flexible

I am using MERG CanBus controls on my model train layout. It massively reduces wiring requirements for digital control of multiple locomotives, turnouts (switches), road crossing gates, doors, pretty much everything that requires electrons.

This can only be good for the simulator hobby.
