Hey guys! Check out my a.c. powered Stewart platform here so you know what I've already got. https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/trip-rodriguez-6dof-motion-sim.9262/

Ok so here is the deal. I really want to add a g- seat and harness tightener to my SIM but I'm on a very tight budget due to still needing to pay off all the credit debt from the 6dof build!

So can anyone link me to their favorite cheap g- seat build to set me on the right path?

I'm hoping to keep it to $500 or so, let me know if you think that's likely enough to get the job done right. If not I'll still be doing it but the timeline will have to change.

    Thanks all.

    Trip

I think because of @SeatTime a lot of people will be building G-Seats.
    Count me on that boat.

I will follow your progresses @Trip Rodriguez , good luck with your project!

I put some indicative cost in my thread, so it is possible to build both for under/around $500. Note that I have only placed flappers in the back of the seat..

I was having a hard time trying to pick out the G-seat build info I need from Seattime's thread so I'm just going to start at the beginning and read the whole thread. Sweet that he's got the harness tensioner project going too as that is my other next step.

I'm not one to give a step by step, as I just don't have the time/inclination and often it depends on what each person has available. I get documentation forced down my throat at work, so hate doing it on my own projects - rather be building than documenting:). If you can build a nice looking 6DOF then this should be easy - your already got more info than I had :).

    Thanks SeatTime,

I'm somewhat the same way, you will find I don't have much step by step stuff done either because I don't have the discipline to keep documenting when I can be building instead!

Mostly what I'm after is this: (currently I'm up to page 7 of your thread looking for these answers)
    Acutators- what you used
Affordable linkage parts (RC? I don't know where to buy this stuff affordably)
Electronics used (Arduino or?) to interface to computer and SimTools

I'm a bit familiar with teensy boards, never touched an Arduino so unfamiliar but seems similar? For my 6DOF build I used Thanos AMC board and just followed step by step instructions! It's easy to assume I know more than I do because I am lucky to have the help of many more knowledgeable people on the internet.

Your actuators are a work of art and make me very jealous sir.

@SeatTime posted the parts and indicative costs here: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/seattimes-6dof-dc-build.6106/page-28#post-124207

There are other possible suppliers but try these:

    Value Hobby: http://www.valuehobby.com

    HobbyKing: https://hobbyking.com

You will find plenty in the FAQs about Arduinos and members here will help fill in any gaps, so please post questions as they arise. See here for @eaorobbie code and guide to driving servos and interfacing them with SimTools: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/how-to-drive-rc-servo-with-arduino-and-simtools.30/

Thanks for the links @noorbeast ! That saved me some time for sure. I'm familiar with HobbyKing, ordered RC stuff from them in the past before I started spending all my monies on sim stuff =P.

This should be enough info for me to start planning my purchases for the G-seat build.

Got the parts list from SeatTime, which is great! @noorbeast what Arduino model should I buy for this project? I plan to make the back and also the bottom, so I will need two Arduino's or just one (four axes I believe)?

Going to do the harness tightener as well, so I guess that's a third Arduino.

I should be able to order many of the parts (if not all) this month, it will be a bit over budget but I have a few things to sell on ebay to try to make up the difference =D.

Go with the Uno, and you should only need 2, one for the G-Seat (you are not driving individual axis) and one for the belt tensioner.
