So sitting behind my desk at work is CXC Simulations Motion Pro, serial number 5. This thing is OLD, but you can tell it was built like a tank. It's been in a crate shoved in the back of our warehouse for the last 8 years, and a couple months ago we decided to haul it out and set it up.

Issue #1: It worked for a few races, then the steering system locked up. CXC said it was a known issue and there really isn't a fix for the super old design. A retrofit would be in the neighborhood of $15,000 for just the steering wheel and pedals (since the old pedals don't work with their new wheel / control unit).

I'm hoping to fix it for a bit less!

After the issue with the steering wheel, the machine sat for another month or two unused. When I went to boot it up again to look at how the software was configured to see if adding an off the shelf wheel would be an easy fix, I discovered that Windows XP would no longer boot. Bluescreen every time it tried to load. No last known good config, unable to find an XP disc to run OS recovery, I threw windows 10 on a spare SSD. Computer fired right up, loads fine, and considering that it is old, is still a pretty fast machine.

Issue #2: No modern drivers. The system seems to run using something called SimConBASE to handle motion control, and of course there are no drivers available anywhere, unless someone just happens to have them saved. FrexGP, the Japanese company that makes the sim has just dead links to the downloads on their own website, and CXC Simulations support said they don't have anything that old either.

It looks like I can buy an updated control box for about $120 + shipping (12,640 yen) and another $70 for SimTools.... and I'm sure about 20 other things will pop up.

Has anyone else torn one of these apart or run into issues in the past that I should look out for? I'd prefer to rebuild it once rather than take it apart over and over again.

The Steering wheel and Pedals are NOT proprietary to the rig, Toss those and replace with something legit like a OSW build or Accuforce. 15k for new wheel & pedals is a RIIIIIIP OFFFF.

That hardware DOES NOT cost that much. Tho to make up their 60-70k price tag, i guess they have some BIG price tags to throw around.

As far as the motion is concerned, we should be able to get you sorted with Simtools(No need to run SimConBASE. They are just actuators afterall.
