Last night I downloaded dirt showdown on steam and simtools won't recognise it running. I've tried everything that I can think of from previous plugin installation issues. I am using windows 7 64 bit and i tried naming the exe exactly like the plugin but nothing has worked yet

Have you played a few races to create a save file?
If so, did you patch the game in the right place MyDocuments/Mygames/Dirtshowdown , I think.

Yeah I played enough to get a save file and I did patch it to MyDocuments/Mygames/Dirtshowdown and even tried to make sure everything matched as far as exe naming goes like I had to do with grid. I tried it a few different ways.

I see that Showdown is on sale via Steam. Have you played the game enough t0 have an opinion on it yet? If I grab it I will try to load it up and see if Simtools is working with it.

Can confirm it works under v1 without any issues.
Patch area for 64Bit is "C:\Users\(User)\Documents\My Games\DiRT Showdown
Im running Windows 8 too in 64bit.

When the game fires does the Game Manager display "Game Running" in blue, if so then check the Game Engine - Tuning Centre for values coming from game in the green area, if not then check you Game Engine - Axis Assignments for Dirt Showdown and be sure that the axis are set, finally check that the min max setting have been set in the tuning centre, if Min Max too large you wont get any motion, either.

Edit : Yes Im running this via Steam.

I've tried it about 3 different ways and I cannot get the game manager to turn blue. Just stays green. I'm gonna mess with it tonight and see what happens but I'm stumped

Ok sounds like the game is not patching correctly for you.
Please check that in the C:\Users\(username)\Documents\My Games\DiRT Showdown\hardwaresettings\
    That this file exists "hardware_settings_config.xml"
if successfully patched before there should be .bak file in there too.
Now to check inside this file check that this line reads correctly , like this
    <motion enabled="true" extradata="0" delay="1" port="4123" ip="127.0.0.1"/>

Now if this is all correct then it comes down to the filename, this needs to match the plugin name correctly as in it is case sensitive "showdown or showdown_avx"
    This should work ?

Ok so I went through everything again tonight with a fine tooth comb. I checked to make sure that the exe was in the right case setting which according to the plug-in is Showdown.exe. Well after removing and reinstalling the patch a few times I still came up with nothing so I decided to see what exe that steam was using and it was in fact using showdown_avx.exe. From there I went into my Dirt Showdown installation folder and changed my Showdown.exe executable to Showdown2.exe and renamed Showdown_avx.exe to Showdown.exe. I thought that this would be my fix because I know that the plugin is looking for Showdown.exe but I still had nothing so I changed it again to showdown.exe and now it is recognizing it. It's not always case sensitive is what I'm getting at because according to the plugin it is looking for Showdown.exe. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for your help guys!!!

Plugin looks for showdown.exe or showdown_avx.exe , all lower case, there is a new release on the way that doesn't pay attention to the case of the process, your setting the exe name wrong. No capital letters.

Ok I see. I was opening the plugin with notepad and searching for the name of the exe within. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for pointing me to the right place!!

I bought this game the other day during the Christmas sale. I too have found that it does not work for me.

I followed all of the above advice and nothing.

Checked that the patch info was created and in the proper place.

    I am running Simtools 1.1

Changed the case of both executable files even though that shouldn't matter now (and it didn't, still doesn't work).

One thing that I noticed that is different; in the profile editor the executable is shown simply as showdown, unlike Eaorobbie's example above.

In processes in Windows (8) it shows that showdown_avx.exe is the process running, not showdown. I cannot look in the plugin dll file to see which one it is actually looking for though.

Think you have the outdated plugin.
Ver 1.1 of SimTools will disregard the case of the process name.

Im running on V1.1 Windows 8 64bit, no issues to report, except games is wicked fun, smashing in figure 8 racing. Not much online thou.

I will jump on and check it again tonight as its been a couple of weeks since I played the game.

Historiker did you ever get this working? I was trying to remember exactly what I did to get this one working but just make sure the you've got it properly patched and that the executable is named correctly (shouldn't have to worry about case anymore). If you did get it running I hope you're enjoying it!! I always through new drivers on this game in the demo derby to get them used to the simulator before getting them on the other games.

Hi Frank, no I could not. Eaorobbie mentions a new plug-in above but I can find no newer plugin than that posted in my last communication.

Oddly the Demo worked fine, the release does not. The release also has issued with steering wheels as well. They seemed to remove support for wheels in the release although there are several work-arounds for that. I was able to get my Fanatec gear working.

Actually what Eaorobbie was talking about was an update for Simtools itself. The new version isn't picky about the case of the letters in the name of the executable. Download the newest Simtools from here http://www.xsimulator.net/simtools-motion-simulator-software/ and it should fix your problem. I haven't had any issues with the steering wheels with the newest steam version but I'm running the Logitech G27 wheel and pedals. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions.

Hi Frank, as I also mention in my post; I have the latest version of Simtools installed. But thanks for keeping in on this.

Can't have motion with showdown. I tried all that has been said above. nothing.
@Historiker did you finally managed to get it working?

EDIT: patched in My Games folder and edited xml files. All of the other Dirt I own (2,3,Rally) work fine

Sorry @Blame73 I have not had the time in the last year to get back to this game. Too many things going on, and to be honest I lost interest in Showdown anyway. Dirt Rally consumes what little time I take away from iRacing and EuroTruck Simulator 2.
