DIY 2 DOF - First Time Builder

    I am new to the forum and plan on building a 2 DOF shoulder seat mover, i have seen a few other threads on here that feature Arduino - Moto monster Shield combo. The particular build i have been referencing had 2 motors controlled by the single MM, and a single PSU.

    Is this ideal? and/or why do people use 2 PSU/ 2 MM? I have ordered the arduino and 1 x MM, plus i have some 180 degree pots coming. I still need to purchase the PSU and i want to use 12v Worm drive motors. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips before i commence to far. Will post updates as i build!

    I have purchased the DX R1206 UNO / DX Monster Moto Shield for Arduino board, i intend on running 2 x worm drive motor 12v 200 w, 180 rpm, they are rated at 16 Amps at 12 V and are available from motion dynamics. So i am hoping that i can use a single server PSU or similar with an output of say 47A 600W etc. does that sound reasonable, im a total noob!

    How well do the car batteries handle the constant load? Do you use a deep cycle battery with a trickle charger of some type? Car batteries are pretty costly compared to buying a server pau or something similar I imagine. Is it purely the amperage that is making you go down this path? What are he pro's/cons?

    Batteries work very well indeed, and most or the original builders started out using them and indeed still do. @eaorobbie has some great information in his threads on using batteries.

    I used to use a deep cycle battery with mine before I went over to PSUs. I used a trickle charger to keep it topped up. The only issue that I had was that with long sessions the battery would get low and I sometimes lost my motion. Again; eaorobbie has a few tricks to overcome these issues. Perhaps @noorbeast has a link? I really should start keeping a list myself one of these days :)

    Hi @Sean Philpot - First up, welcome and good luck with your project.
    Personally, I haven't used batteries to power my sim. I am using two HP DPS-600PB 575W power supplies and they have been really good. But, I haven't looked into the Arduino and MM as I am using the JRK12v12's. So unfortunately, I won't be able to help you out with that one.
    Anything else, I will gladly try to help out where I can.

    Hi and thanks for the response! I don't think the battery route is for me, did you buy your power supply's on eBay and how much should I be expecting to spend on them?     I just bought one for my project and with shipping came to $30 CAD. Hopefully just the one is sufficient for the 2 PGSaw motors.

    I got 2 of those power supplies for $60 from ebay as well. They were second hand but have been running for a while now so I think it was worth the money.
    Like @noorbeast said, keep an eye out for them and you will find some at a good price in no time.
