I managed to get a Sabaru Impreza dash board from the car scrap yard. Each Rev Motor has 4 PINS not 4 wires.

    Cos -
    Cos +
    Sin -
    Sin +

I have attached pictures & I am wondering how I can connect these two rev motors to the symproject electronic chips. I can't see where the data is coming from to control the needle.

    Many Thanks,

    Fahim

    Nice gauges Fahim!

The aircores need Sin and Cos waves, won't understand digital data. :)
Any electronic gauge is compatible so all you have to do is to buy the one you prefer the best.

Do you have the electronics behind the plastic? Thats what you need to hook up.

Like Frakk said, you need the elektronicsboard from the subaru gauge set to get the dails to work.

The rev motors are aircore's and need an aircore driver to work.

You need to find out a few things about the subaru set:
    • - Find a wire diagram for that gauge set so you can find out where the speed signal gets in and what voltage you need.
      - Find out if the gauge is canbus connected or not. If it is canbus it will be very hard to get it to work as the speed signal wil be digital and not pwm (puls wide modulation)

I have the electronic board but for someone like me looking at is like looking at a mother borg ship. Don't know where to start. I might see if i can get old motors from somewhere. I take it all new cars have 4 pin system.

    Hi
Have you got a connector for cluster?
If you have I will find wire diagram for Subaru but tell me wich year is cluster.
If you want buy BMW E36 cluster I put somewhere on forum complete wire diagram ( post24565.html#p24565 post24582.html#p24582)

Is the cluster the green connecter with the 30 coloured wires that go into the dash board circuit? if it is, I had to leave that in the car scrap yard. I did not know if I could cut it off without managers permission. Maybe I need to go back to the scrap yard if the it is worth it (if air-core way is more precise than standard electrical way)

Anyway my dad gave me his legandary toyato corolla dashboard. Please see picture of that motor.

    Zi6_0854 (Large).JPG

Do I leave the motor on the circuit board as it is and it should work combined with symprojects circuit board? Or do I have to take the motor off its original board and then re-wire just the motor to the symprojects circuit board? I hope this is compatible because that would be two dashboard I have ripped into :D

Sorry but the picture is to bad to see what is on it. Try to post a better picture please.

What year is the toyota from?

The symprojects board can not work directly on the motor. It doesn't generate a COS or SIN signal it generates a pwm signal/pulse.

@ Jadran:I will ring the scrap yard. They told me it was the newest impreza so it must be 2006 or newer. But I will ring to make sure.

@ Mexwall: Toyota is 1991 I think. Here is a better picture. I have not connnected anything yet. But put things into position.

This could work with the symproject board. All you need to find out now is what voltage it needs to work and what voltage the signal should be, 5 or 12 volt.

The car has been demolished. All that was left was the dashboard and it says nothing on that.

The power supply that symprojects.com supplied me with was UK 12V. Shall I just set both to 12V and see what happens?

Infact just checked the boards. They are at 5V default so that is probably the best bet.

Well I just left both at 5v and turned it on and the rev needle went to default position and in the sim dash program it says green light - Connected.

But when I go to configeration of the actual instrument then nothing happens with the needle.

There are two jumpers on these symproject boards. Which one is for which. Just says J1 & J2.

Anyway nothing happens in test mode. Three connections. Ground, Pin & Ignition from this toyato motor. Ground = - , Pin = C ( which controls the needle) & IGN must mean + Positive.

    Many Thanks.

Switch the Pin and the IGN. I don't know what pin means, but IGN should be the rev signal from the engine.

Yeah thanks that made it work like atleast a slug in the test mode. It was so slow and such small range of movement it made me think that this toyata corrola needs to be put to rest. it has had its best days.

Anyway i bought this from Ebay for £19.00. I will use the motor on this and put the saburu needle on the pin and link it all into the sabaru dash with the copy ferrari dial and sweeten it up with carbon fibre.

This Ferrari dial which you can buy from Ebay fits perfectly in Saburu Impreza WRX 2004 dashboard. So cut the dials.
    001 (Large).JPG

Stuck the dial into sabaru dash from the edge with strong tape.
    001a (Large).JPG

    002 (Large).JPG 003 (Large).JPG

Then buyed carbon fibre sticker sheet. You can buy this from Ebay or halfords car store. Use fine knife to cut around edge. Scissors don't do it accurate.
    004 (Large).JPG

    Potential effect for lighting.
    004a (Large).JPG

Take the full unit from the scrap yard. Here I carbon fibred effect the dash hood aswell.
    004b (Large).JPG

Scroll down to see the rev needle motor I bought from Autodials.co.uk. Because you have to do some cutting now to the back plastic plate so everything fits in. Put the casing on the white plastic and do the marking before cutting.
    005 (Large).JPG

Cut the holes, also cut lots of holes for future lighting you put in or for heat escape.
    006 (Large).JPG 007 (Large).JPG 008 (Large).JPG 009 (Large).JPG 010 (Large).JPG

There are holes aready in each corner of the symproject boards to control the REV and Speed. So just mount these on the very back because it makes it easier for plugging & unpluggin of the USB & power cords.
    011 (Large).JPG

Then again from symprojects I buyed the gear shift indicator which again fits good with the ferrari dial. There is slight gap on each side so I used grey duck tape for each side to seal the gaps and when finished you will not notice difference. You can see a difference in the pictures because of the camera flash. You have to do Trial and error when it comes to positioning so everything fits nicely.
    012 (Large).JPG

The proper Ferrari F430 etc dial have like a browney ring around them So buy gold or brown car paint pen and colour the ring.
    013 (Large)e.JPG

Then put fill in the smallround gap in the sabuaru dashboard with a white ring and put the markers on the brown ring and then you have the cheap imitation of a ferrari dash :D
    014 (Large).JPG

Drill hole on each side of G25. I checked an image of G25 inside on google and it is empty on either sides past the motors. Make sure you look at internal pics of a G25 before you drill hole to mount.
