Hi all, first time poster, I guess cos everything was pretty easy to workout with sim tools and my SCN6s.

I have two SCN6s left and right at the front of my rig, connected to USBs via Logykal USB-RS485 connectors.

Everything works perfectly but I have this niggle that on startup Of Simtools only one actuator does it’s acquisition movement. The way I’ve found to solve this is just have the right side USB plugged in and when my PC has loaded some startup apps, but before Simtools starts, plug the other one in. Then they both work fine.

this behaviour is displayed if I have Simtools set to start with windows or if I start Simtools manually.

it’s like one USB or COM Port won’t start at the same time as the other one if they are both plugged in, but if you delay the start until the first is up and running, they both work.

many ideas why this might be happening?

    Thanks in advance

Yup, both zero. Like I say they work perfectly and produce expected motion in games etc. Just literally I have to do the little dance I described on startup to get them both working together

Cheers for that noorbeast. To be honest no I haven’t tried different ports, but I haven’t got any left so it would be a bit of upheaval to swap everything about. As the problem isn’t major and everything works flawlessly in games I don’t want to get into messing with everything that already works. Reading through the link seems that might help someone who is experiencing crashes but my issue feels different with it just not starting up properly. I noticed today that if I have device manager open the com ports don’t show up until I unplug and re plug the connectors until they both show up. Then when I start Simtools it works from the get go. If I don’t do this step, only 1 comport opens and only one actuator moves when Simtools starts.

I did try tweaking the comport speed & values as per the Simtools guide and also downloading specific drivers also as per Simtools guide but that hasn’t made any difference to startup

Maybe as simple as switching my PC on and when that is up and running then switch my actuators on rather than the other way around?

It does sound like you are working around a com port issue. Depending on your computer if you have a spare slot you could try adding a USB card.

So what works is. Switch on PC, log in, wait for startup apps to load, switch power on to actuators, start Simhub. Seems like due to something to do with how the PC opens the COM ports is slow. Maybe a BIOS thing or maybe just how it was built

If you are using SimHub and SimTools together then that will create a com port conflict, you need to port forward: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simhub-port-forwarding.356/

Thanks, I don’t use Simhub but I used to and although I uninstalled it when I got Sim Tools it did occur to me that it left something behind as I understand it’s quite an aggressive app when it comes to ports?

It is not really a case of being aggressive, but rather with UDP only one app can access the data.

OK so this has escalated… now I don’t get motion at all with the iRacing plugin Simtools V3 beta.

Simtools was asking me to update but there was no button to update sooo, I uninstalled everything and reinstalled… spent ages putting all my settings back to how I has them, adding plugins etc etc. After this iRacing started working intermittently, had to stop and start Simtools multiple times before it worked. Now I can’t get it working at all. All the other plugins work fine and always have. Assetto RF2. Uninstalled & reinstalled iRacing plugin, makes no difference. Appears no telemetry is being received from iRacing by Simyools. Any ideas?

Being in open beta testing you should review then post to the dedicated v3 thread, for Dev visibility: https://xsimulator.net/community/threads/simtools-v3-public-beta.17329/

OK so what you’re saying is I should take down al my settings and uninstall the beta and reinstall the Std version. Gotcha. I just thought the beta was the latest version that it was asking me to update to, must have made a mistake somewhere along the way. Cheers

No, you should post your issue on the beta thread for assistance.

So, turned the PC on tonight and Simtools asked to update, which I did. After that it said a plugin required updating but didn’t say which one so I uninstalled and reinstalled the four I have one by one until the blue sign went away (turned out it was rf2) anyway upon restart iRacing works straight away, so phew, all good
Thanks so much for your help by the way, much appreciated, can’t tell you how happy I am to have motion back in iRacing. Cheers
