Not sure if this has come up before but some of you might find it useful. This is a small free physics program for PC, Mac and Ipad that lets you create and animate motors, gears, springs and axles. Might help you visualise the mechanics of your rig. It's deceptively simple.

Freecad is not only freeware, it is also open source. If you know some programming has infinite possibilities.
