Fully enclosed simulators for immersion

    I'm thinking of enclosing my seat-shaker in a plywood box so that you can climb into it and close the door the way you would a car. I would upholster the inside, install a dash complete with buttons and switches, install some nice backlighting, and install a surround-sound system.
    I don't see people doing this very often... is there a reason other than the additional work required? After going through the effort and cost of triple screens, etc., why wouldn't you go the extra step and make it look and feel like you're actually in a vehicle?
    Do you happen to know of any similar build threads that I can use for inspiration?

    I suspect VR is the reason that physical cockpits are less common theses days, particularly as you can have so many different realistic interiors.

    @SeatTime did some experiments with partially enclosed rig, I am not sure if that is still up but @SeatTime is in a position to offer first hand advice.
