Question Hardware recommendation for vertical rig mover

    I would like to extend my existing 2DOF rig. The rig is built on a metal frame (Item24 profiles) and is quite stable in itself. Now I want to place the whole rig on actuators at the 4 corners and generate the vertical movements with these 4 actuators. The 4 actuators should only ever be operated in parallel, i.e. the rig should not tilt forwards/backwards or sideways. All these movements remain within the range of the seat mover on the rig.

    I would like to build the 4 actuators myself from commercially available parts and 3D printed parts, similar to the SFX actuators, but the 4 actuators should be driven by a central, powerful motor. The mechanical design is easy to implement, the existing rig offers space and possibilities to make everything visually appealing.

    The control system should work as follows: So far, the Seatmover has been controlled via the Simxperience or Simtools software, depending on which game is used. Both software packages are installed on the hardware and I can use them alternatively.

    I want to control the new actuators for raising and lowering the rig with the Simtools software or SimHub and the seat mover with SimXperience or Simtools as described above. SimXperience can also forward the signal to other software such as Simtools or SimHub via port forwarding to control additional hardware.

    Now my questions:

    • If the SFX actuators are each rated at 750 watts, then a central motor with 2 KW should be sufficient, as the rig is never loaded on one side and an actuator does not need to have the power reserve as in an SFX design (inclinations to the side and front/rear and thus more load on a single actuator). Do I understand this correctly?
    • On various shopping pages (Aliexpress etc.) and Ebay complete packages are offered in various performance classes, what is the preferred package with controller and power supply that fits Simtools and/or Simhub?

    First suggestion: Use only 3 instead of 4 actuators. Most rigs have more weight at the rear side so two actuators at the back and one in the front are sufficient.

    Second: Actuators with screws are surprisingly cheap when bought in China but they are difficult to synchronize when they are mounted far away from the motor. Long timing belts are noisy, sloppy and not cheap.

    So I'd build it like this with steel cables:

    If your winch drum diameter is small and your motor has enough torque you probably don't need a gear. The pulley system doubles the force.
