Hello everyone, I have been looking for in this forum, which I found very interesting, but I have not yet found any response. I am thinking of a project of 3 degrees of freedom with some kind of "pistons" or "elevators". Honestly, I have no idea what they are. I wanted to know if they could tell me what those engines are called, because I don't know.
My second question is whether any of these configuration applications offers the option to configure those engines and how to do it. My last question is whether I need a sensor or something similar to detect the movement of the engines, since I have seen that some have a hall sensor, but I do not see them in those who are similar to what I want to do.
That's all to everyone. Thank you very much in advance. I would appreciate any help.

That is a linear actuator, and yes you likely need a sensor if there is no built in encoder that can be controlled.

Please be aware that motion rigs need very fast commercial or DIY actuators, most often servo driven these days, and those need to be supported by available controllers, please see the FAQs for an example: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/amc-aasd15a-servo-controller.351/

Spending time researching will save you time and likely money, plus a good deal of frustration.
