Help me build a Hyperloop simulator for school

    Hi all,

    I'm trying to build a simple and dirty simulator to simulate what "Hyperloop" would feel like:

    By my calculations, I need a platform to rest a cage on which would rock back and forward in one dimension, like a rocking chair. On that cage, I would need to have a motor that spun the internal cylinder back and forth. These can both happen simultaneously to represent the turn. Rough sketch:

    A 2DOF would do that, but what is the anticipated load, 2 people plus a section of the carriage?

    I think maybe a joyrider frame like @value1 might do it. Judging from the videos I watched of his ride.

    I'm not sure how to estimate the load. I would think for 2 people it should account for ~225lb per person. I'm not sure how much the fabricated cage and motor would weight, which would sit on the 2dof motor. How do people anticipate these things? Anything else you were thinking of?

    People normally start by being clear about the intended use, do a lot of research, the FAQs are a good place to start, do a design, work out the desired performance and then do up a parts list.

    Where it is a complicated and costly project, like yours may be, then you can build a simple or complex model to test your ideas prior to spending a lot of time and money:

    Are you also writing the software to drive it? Unfortunately you would have the same issue as trying to build a motor bike simulator, as the tube would rotate in turns and the G-force would stay tangential to the body.
