IBT-2 BTS7960 43A problem

    My Motion Simulator:

    I have 2 24v motors and when I am using SMC3 Utils, I put one of the motors in motion and it goes up and then down real fast, Something is blowing my IBT-2 and it will put my power supply in safety mode. I guess the motor is back feeding power at the time it goes in the opposite direction fast, It seems to be okay in slow motion. I am wondering what can I do to protect the IBT-2 from getting shorted out?

    Are you running 12v or 24v?

    Other members have reported issues running IBT2s at 24v, irrespective of the published specs, dropping the voltage a little seems to make a significant difference.

    Wanted to give you a update and maybe this will help others. I found one problem killing My IBT2's was I was asking the motors to pick up to much weight and forcing a lot of amps in to the ibt2's. I moved the u-joint to the center of the weight, And that fixed blowing ibt2's. I felt like after I did that it everything worked but was to unstable, It movement was fast and rough. I swap over to 12v and the movement feels real and smooth. I don't know why anyone would want to run in 24v, The sim feels real in 12v, And in 24v it felt unreal fast and violent.     Hi Larry, thanks for the post. I have ordered some 24v motors (wheelchair ones) and have already received 24v power supplies. My IBT-2s are still in transit.

    I wanted to ask whether you have 24v motors but are feeding them 12v ? Thanks to let me know.

    I'll reply to myself here just for the sake of documentation - this is what I got:

    Supplying 12 volts to a 24V DC motor will result in the motor running at a reduced speed and torque compared to its normal operation at 24 volts. Specifically:

    1. Reduced Speed: The motor's speed is generally proportional to the applied voltage. If you supply 12V to a 24V motor, it will likely run at approximately half its rated speed.

    2. Reduced Torque: The torque output will also be lower because the torque produced by a DC motor is directly related to the current flowing through it. At a lower voltage, the current is reduced, leading to less torque.

    3. No Damage: Typically, this won't damage the motor, but it may not perform as required for your application due to the reduced speed and torque.
    If the motor is being used in an application that requires the full torque and speed capabilities, running it at half the rated voltage might cause issues, such as the inability to overcome load resistance or maintain performance standards.

    Just to add to that, member feedback tends to suggested that IBT2 longevity is enhanced running them at 20-22v max. While rated for 24v members have reported issues when doing so for motion rigs, particularly with respect to the significant power spikes generated in fast reversals.

    I have 24v Motors and hands down the sim runs better on 12v then 24v, No problems with IBT2s and over all the sim runs smoother. I bought the cytron boards and tried it again at 24v, It worked fine but just did not run as smooth, I went back to 12v.
