I am building a kart simulator for my son so he can learn kart tracks

    i want software that can

    1. drive a simulator
    2. allow me to scan and build my own tracks
    3. allow me to race other vehicles as well as karts

i know there is kart racing pro - but i am unsure it has a big enough following and the tracks i want are available

Both rFactor2 and Game Stock Car Extreme have karts and a few kart tracks included. You can make your own tracks for use with them as well if you know how.

You need to use a software to build a track, like 3DsimED which is most known for building racing tracks. Other than that you have 3DSmax, Blender, etc..

But it seems to me that you don't have a lot knowledge about it, so it won't be easy for sure. A lot of experienced track and car builders / modders require months, even years to build a complete track. Although a karting track would be easier, still, it is a lot of work.

For the best feeling of karts in the game, I would recommend rFactor 2 or Kart Racing Pro, but mostly Rfactor 2, it has some advanced technologies.

I in turn recommend GSC Extreme. I believe its built on the same game engine as rFactor2 and it has shifter karts standard as well that rFactor2 doesn't have! They're a real blast to take out for a drive!

Google Traslate: Uses a Kart chassis to make the simulator?

Building a motion kart chassis simulator is certainly possible:
