Is SimTools capable of recording and replaying motion?

Still very new here, but am working toward upgrading some entertainment simulators from a proprietary control format to a system of Arduinos and SimTools.

Our setup currently only plays .dat files that are "recorded" with a joystick controller and replayed on-command for a 3-4 minute experience (roller coasters, for example). The motion files are then run in conjunction with a side-by-side 3D mp4 played through a HMD.

Even though we're wanting to fully transition to a real-time reading of telemetry through experiences produced with a game engine like Unity3d, I'm wondering if it might be possible to use SimTools to record data in a similar fashion to what we use now, so that I can go ahead and begin upgrading the hardware. Maybe someone has written a plugin for this?

    Thanks for any help!

Oh ok thank you! We are definitely working on it being a commercial enterprise, but will hopefully work out a stable operating platform within the year...

I just read-up on 2.0 and I guess this answers my question. "Video Ride Player/Creator - (Ride, Capture and Create 5D style video rides)"

    Great news!

Also note the information on commercial use :)

    And moved again.

VideoRider plugin coming to V2 will just about do all you want plus creating little bits like a motion cue recorder can be done simply in VB at present.

Are you saying that a current plugin allows for recording a few minutes of motion? VB? Sorry, I don't know what that is...

He means that Simtools 2.0, when released, will have support for video motion recording (Video Rider). VB is Visual Basic.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to 2.0. I thought he was saying a current plugin handled recording, which would be much easier for a noob like me to figure out

So VB can create an interface to record, but I know zilch about it (or any programming language, haha). However, from Wikipedia, it looks like it might be possible for me to follow a proper a tutorial - if I can find one. It looks like a pretty straightforward IDE... I've got plenty of time to learn right now, but could spend that in Unity if 2.0 is around the corner. Has any info been leaked regard a potential release date?

Thanks so much for the info, btw!

I was asked to let the cat out of the bag early to show an example, a little rough. Of the final output of what the Video Rider is capable of. There is a video running in front of the model and the Video Plugin is reading a saved motion cue, and in sync with the video, moves the model with SimTools. 4D cinema at its rawest, pardon the bad camera angle and practices.

Now aswell I made a little modification of a 6 axis joystick , built a little UDP app to send the joysticks data live to the VideoRider - Recorder. Require a little Visual Basic know how but as all comes to life and people start to use, I have a base for people to at least start from to develop their own tools and share with the community.
