    Hi to all fellow simers,

I have almost finished my motion sim :yippiee: and I am posting some first photos of it.

The geometry is based on suggestions posted by Bernard. I also followed his in-line dampening design with covers for the actuators (they may not look as good as Bernard's) but I think they work efficiently.
I will post an action video as soon as I will have ready the front end of the sim as well.

Many thanks to the leaders and all the members of this community for helping me by sharing their work and experiences on motion sim building.

Many thanks also to Bernard (bvillersjr) for making things in motion sim building - a lot easier for guys like me (SX3000 is really cool).

I would really appreciate any kind of input (suggestions, corrections etc.)

    Regards,

    John

    Hi John,

Your sim is looking good so far.

It looks like something has been misintrepreted from the dimensions that I posted. It seems that the seat is much higher than mine, and the rear dampening bar looks a bit narrow. Are you able to drive this setup without lifting your feet off the pedals?

Keep at it, you've got alot done in a fairly short timeframe given the amount of custom fabrication you had to do!

I'm looking forward to the video.

    Hi Bernard,

Thanks for your comments. To be honest i do not know how I ended up with 40 cm above ground as I calculated the distance around 36 cm from real car. However, I am myself around 1,84 cm so it is not much of a problem. With very aggressive profiles tho, I tend to loose pedals a bit, upon accelerating. As for the rear dampening bar it is 30x30mm wide (I did not have 40x40 cm - wide). What do you think of the ellongated actuator rods? I think they give a bit more power due to longer leverage distance, but i do not have previou experience to compare to.

I like your extended rod idea. My only concern would be that the increase in radial load could potentially cause premature bushing wear, but since I haven't tested this, I cannot be sure. I've heard of SCN5's being used in horizontally mounted industrial applications, so I may not be a concern at all, especially since you arent using the extra width.

i hope it wont be a problem as well. As for the dampening bar it is 78cm long (30.71 in) but looks norrower perhaps due to the 100 (39.37 in) cm width of the main base frame.

    Thank you very much guys,

So far I am quite pleased with the result and hope to have the front end of the sim ready within the next two weeks. In the mean time I've mount an SLI-M and some buttons on my G25. A couple of videos are coming soon (I will borrow a friend's HD cam!).

    Regards,

    John

    Re: Johnakar 2 DoF motion sim_update 2013

    Hi to all,

A couple of photos from my sim rig as a small update, since there has been a while since my last posts and my rig is almost complete now. So, I hope you like it as I do :D
Design drawings are available on pm.

John, well done! Looks awesome. What other details are you planning on adding? Paint, etc?

    Thanks Historiker,

I'm definitely gonna cover the mdf parts, thinking of carbon adhesive (d-noc) or something similar.
Another idea is to design a livery and have it made as adhesive to cover the mdf case.

Though I will have to disassemble the whole thing, so I have leave this for later.

Regarding hardware, I am thinking of the SSQ shifter from Fan. As a good addition.

As always, any suggestions are welcome.

    BR ,
    John

Looks good, John, will be very interested to see pics if you cover it in carbon film. As a cyclist, I am a carbon fiber devotee.

Just curious what size t-slot you used? Is that 30x30?

I priced some here and 40x40 was $35/metre.

It's good quality stuff, so probably worth it, but dayam some things are expensive!

    Hi aarondc,
These are 40x40. I used in total about 8m of AL profiles and the overall EDIT (monitor stand) construction costed around 370 euros. I purchased those by the local distributor of ITEM profiles.

Hah! I remembered wrong. Coz they charge you $2 / cut and then add GST to the whole shebang, so yeah. $40/meter. But 8m would be $320, but then add all the connectors, so probably a similar price in the end.
