    Dear Sirnoname,

two months ago I have realized a simple drawing of something like the Thanos Joyrider in CAD, with alluminum extrusions.
There is only the frame, the connection and the seat but I suppose that can be enought to start.
    Dimension 1:1.

The only thing is that I do not know how to export this in .stl at the moment.

    Regards,
    Alle

P.S. I'm not able to attach the .dwg file because the maximum allowed file size is 250.

    Re: New CAD section

You can compress it with .RAR extension... I think that .rar files have bigger file size limit than zip...!

Anyway good job! It would be nice to also have a 3D visualization of joyrider in x-sim!

Also a nice alternative design, for the easiness of getting in and out of it, would be this:

    Show.jpg

    Show2.jpg

    Show3.jpg

Of course you have to remove the stick linkage attachments and place a bucket racing seat int it!

    Regards, Thanos

    Re: New CAD section

    Hi Alle,

    looks good!

250mb seems pretty much for your frame CAD file.

Could you add some motors and motor mounts as well? It seems to me that the construction is a little big in comparance to the seat. As well in real life those thin aluminium profiles would bend if applied a bodywheight to them. Either thicker profiles, or steel.
    Anyway, good job!

    regards
    Christian

    Dear all,

I'm trying to upload the file with the cad drawing but every time, it appears file too big. Max size 250 kb.
    The file is .rar.

    @Thanos

I have also a cad drawing of something like you showed in the picture, but with small dimensions.
I have designed it, two weeks ago, in order to assemble a RC car on it and then test my board with X-Sim.
Potentiometers are already showed in the drawing.

    @Ego

Yes of course I can add motors and other things to the model but I prefer, as first, to finish/correct the frame with the right dimensions.
Regarding the Joyrider alluminium dimensions, they are based on the original plan of the Joyrider.
Now, I have to understand if the seat dimension are correct and then compare them Joyrider dimension.
I have used a cad seat that I have found on this forum; never checked the dimensions.

Regarding the allumimium extrusions, I have considered in the drawing the thicker profile version of the 40x40 family.
With this profiles, If you apply a force of 981 N in the middle (total lenght 2000 mm), the profile will blend 16,73 mm.
I have a sample of them in the workshop and I have also a sample of the D90 PVC pipes used in the Thanos Joyrider.
If you compare them, the alluminum extrusions are much more stronger then the PVC pipes.
The PVC pipes blend a lot.
If the Thanos Joyrider works, for sure the alluminium profiles are better (of course it is my idea, based on real comparison).

    Regards,
    Alle.

Note: to upload the cad drawing, I'm using add file as I do when i upload a picture. Is it correct?

Yes, perhaps the the seat is not scaled properly yet.
Though it had correct dimensions when I've imported the seat model into ProE. The dimensions are nearly the same ones like the ones of my real racing seat.

As well the fact that Thanos Joyrider, and the original one, do have thicker pvc tubes makes us think that the dimensionns are incorrect perhaps.

Its preferable to achieve a system that does not bend or damp at all.

Probably that is the reason why Thanos reinforced his pvc frame with some metal tubes.

    Yes, I agree with you.

This is only a starting point.
If we can find a better solution to reduce as much as possible the blending and dumping, this is better.
Afterall, I think that the alluminium extrusion can be an upgrade compared with the PVC pipes.

    Alle

    Hi Alle,

Can I ask you about the connections of the alluminium extrusion pieces?
Are they durable? Can handle twisting forces as well?

I ask cause many times I hear the PVC connectors on my joyrider making noises under lots of stress. But as they are bolted in 4 places around each end, I don't fear any breakdown...

    Regards, Thanos

    Hi Thanos,

to be honest I have never tried with dinamic components.
I have used them to build skids for GasC*oling systems and DeN*x systems.
The pumps, I placed on this alluminium extrusions, have an hevy weight with small but continues vibrations.
In this kind of situation, there is no problem with the connections.

What I can tell you is that, there are different types of connection in function of the use you need.
I will give you more details in future after I have tryed with dinamic components.

    Alle

    Hi Sirnoname.

I can realize a Cad drawing of the Thanos Joyrider with PVC pipes.
I can realize it with a 1:1 scale, following the original Joyrider plan.

    Only a couple of things:
    - how i can upload the cad drawing? Everytime i try to do it,it appears file too big. Max size 250 kb.
I have also tried the .rar and .zip but nothing.

    - if I try to export the .dwg drawing into .stl, something goes wrong due to a bad position of the model in the 3D space.
After i have finished the drawing, someone can help me to export it into .stl?

    Regards,
    Alle

    Hi,

today I have worked a little bit on the Thanos Joyrider PVC CAD model.
Enclosed you can find some pictures.
    I have not finished yet.
I will be out some days. I hope to finish the model in the weekend.

    Regards,
    Alle

    Good job!

When it will be ready Adrian and Sirnoname will implement it then to into the X-Sim CAD simulation module, where we have the simforceGT and RnR already.
In case you will be able to upload it :D

    Dear all,

enclosed you can find some pictures of the Joyrider PVC Cad model.
The model is composed only by the the frame at the moment.
If needed I can add also the wiper motors, pulleys and the structures to support them.

The link to download the model is:

    Hi,

the link works fine. Though Adrian (CAD simulation programmer) is able to use that Autocad files, I am not able to open your dwg file in ProE. Perhaps you can export them in igs, or stp?

Would be cool if you could add the motor mounts as well.

    Hi Ego,

I will export the cad drawing in igs on stp tomorrow and I will post them here.

Regarding the motors and pulleys, I can add them to the drawing, but I think that it has to be a little bit difficult to animate them in future.
The pulley cables in Thanos Joyrider configuration are difficult to animate.
    They have non linear routes.
Maybe you can ask to Adrian directly what he suggest to add to the drawing in function of what he thinks is simple to implement for the animation.

    Regards,
    Alle

It should be ok, if the belts and pulleys dont move in the animation for now.
But as I want to post your Joyrider model in the forum header, it should have the motor mounts and pulleys

    Hi,

I have added the pitch motor to the model.
The model in .dwg and .sat can be downloaded at:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/133667164/J ... C.rar.html

Next week I will start my vacations :) .... so I will continue to add the bank motor to the model in september.

    Hi Alle,

This is great design. Just to inform you that I have moved the Pitch Pivot point 8-10 cm to the back to have room for the pitch motor mount. I suggest to do the same on your design!

    Regards, Thanos
