Motor Placement

    Now I've sorted out my motors and everything is working it's time to begin the build, there are so many different designs out there but I'm just wondering what the general consensus is about if the motors should be sat behind the seat or more towards the pedal mount, this is 2dof rig.

    A compact design like my rig needs a good deal of torque and because it is moving the base the movement is amplified by the height of the seat. A shoulder mount seat shaker maximised inherent design leverage, and as it is only moving the seat minimises the mass, so is a good choice for weaker motors. A full frame shoulder or foot mount have good inherent design leverage, but be mindful of the mass. A knee mount is a bit of a compromise between a compact and either shoulder or foot mount full frame designs. All designs need to take inertia into consideration, so generally speaking it is a good idea to minimise top frame mass as much as possible, irrespective of what design is chosen.

    Mine are behind the seat. I left my plywood base a bit big so i could experiment with different ideas in the future.

    Like others have mentioned it depends on your rig design. I would recommend moving the motors to the furthest point away from the universal joint, whilst still staying within your desired footprint.
