    Hello everyone I am new to this forum . I am interested in building my own racing simulator for sim racing. Motion is my final piece to my ever growing rig . I have priced out built simulators for example (Stage 1 Sim Experience) and others , and easily surpassing 2 grand . I was told that building my own would be a lot cheaper . So my question if someone can be so kind to help or guide me is the following. What parts do I need for a seat only motion setup similar to ( Sim Experience stage 1 ) ? I will be building it my self and of course with help from this community if possible. I would like to add it to my existing rig which I built out of wood. The sims I play : Iracing , Project Cars , Assetto Corsa , Dirt Rally , Automobilista , Race Room Experience . I also play War Thunder (Flight sim) and of course any future games that can support motion simulator . I am also a early adopter of VR ( Oculus Rift CV1) so adding motion would make the experience that much better.

    Some time researching and planning is time well spent, and the community here can help you out as you formulate your ideas about what you want to build.

    What you are describing is a 2DOF shoulder mount seat shaker design. It is popular as it makes very efficient use of leverage and hence can utilise so relatively affordable performance DC motors: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GEAR-MOTOR-...384?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51bd392f00

    You can use JRKs as control boards, which are a bit more expensive but very easy to set up, or Arduinos/Motor Monsters. A PSU per motor is a good idea and you can do an easy mod to use server PSUs or LED PSUs.

    You will need to pots or Hall sensors, the latter are a bit more expensive but can't be damage by a motor runaway, are very accurate, have a good life span and are easy to mount directly to a motor shaft, with no gearing required.

    You will also need a universal joint as a pivot.
