Hi Everybody. Just joined this Forum. I'm the owner of Thomas Enterprises maker of TSW racing controllers and equipment. We have been building sim racing equipment for over 25 years and I'm sure many of you have heard of us and some of you are probably using TSW's. We are now experimenting with eliminating potentiometers and replacing them with Hall Effect Sensors. Initial testing with one in one of our steering controllers has proved successful and I have 10 more sensors that will be delivered today and will do a full scale test this weekend. The objective is to use these in all of our analog controllers and they will directly replace potentiometers in any of our USB controllers that are already in use without any changes. Hall Effect sensors are non contact so theoretically they should never have to be replaced and the cost is no more than a high quality potentiometers. I will post results and any comments are welcome

    Thank You,
    Dave T

Hall Effect sensors can work well, but the cheaper ones can be sensitive to loads and will fail if not installed correctly.

Thanks for the replies I'm just trying to figure out this forum I had a hard time finding my thread even. I would gladly move my thread if I knew how. Any advice would be appreciated. To answer Seat Time the hall effect sensors we are experimenting with have a 10,000,000 cycle rating with an 8 oz. side load and in our application there shouldn't be any side load so I'm thinking the rating would be for bushing wear since they are non contact unlike potentiometers. My avatar is a 5/8 scale late model simulator I built it has air cylinders on all four corners if anybody is interested I will post pictures of how it was built.

    Thank You,
    Dave T
