I called this one in advance: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/vive-assetto-corsa-vr.8551/#post-106818

What Oculus has done is use the Rift itself as a DRM key, a Rift must be plugged in before an exclusive Oculus Home based game can be played.

It is pretty clear Palmer just flat out lied when he said Oculus would not prevent other headsets being used, as it was not good for VR.

Pretty clear Oculus is now full speed in stoking a full on console DRM style war. That is abhorrent to many PC gamers, including many who own Rifts. Oculus is doing a first rate job of sinking the boot into its own fan base and many are now being openly critical of where Oculus is heading.

My best advice, even for Rift owners, is don't lock any purchases into Oculus Home as there is no future guarantees. The DK2 is already considered unsupported by Oculus and it is pretty clear Oculus is not interest in sales, but rather consumer lock in.

Another reason why I won't ever EVER buy a game from the Oculus Home!

Every move they (Oculus) do seems to push user towards Valve's Vive

Got to admit, if it was not for the current lack of compatible motion tracking for the Vive, I would of had one siting in my sim room now . As it is I still have around a month to wait for a CV1 - that's only if it gets sent out on the date promised:rolleyes:. As it stands, I am currently running with the DK2/1.3 runtime and Assetto Corsa from Steam.

I guess I need to get serious about investigating motion cancellation for the Vive @SeatTime, as being locked into Oculus is now problematic from my point of view.

It is like a step back in time where you could only play a game with the CD in the drive, and all that led to was frustrations for the users and rampant piracy.

Valve (Steam) was the solution to that problem. Maybe it's gonna be the solution for this one too
