Newbie project: Laboratory table for scientific experiment

    Hi all,

    I would like to start a newbie project:

    I would like to tilt a laboratory table in X and Y direction under microprocessor control for an experiment. The tilt angle should be between - 3 and +3 °. The table weighs 10 KG with scientific setups and is 90x70 cm.

    I have thought of the following components: an Arduino Uno and an adafruit motorschield and 2 NEMA 17 stepper motors.

    On youtube I have seen some 2dof projects for gamer (car racing and the like) and references to this forum. Those projects were much more demanding in terms of weights and tilt angles.

    Can someone give me a hint where I should start and has possibly someone already realized a similar project?

    What sort of control over the table movement is required?

    The simplest thing, if it just needs to rock back and forth, would be a center pivot bar, motor with a rotating lever and potentiometer to set the speed.

    The tilt of the table (in x and y direction) shall be controlled by an Arduino and dependent on the position of moving probe on the table. The probe runs on tracks. The position is monitored by 10-20 sensors which provide digital input to the arduino. The Ardunio shall provide analog output in order to smoothly tilt the table (between +/- 3 °) by stepper motors or servo motors. The tilted table forces the probe in a particular direction. The probe shall run on a circuit.
