    Hi all,

    Setup details:
    2DOF DIY
Arduino SMC3 with single MM board
    SimTools 2.1

Short story - I am able to get movement through the SMC3 Utility Tool BUT when trying to assign and then axis test in SimTools, I don't get any response or movement.

To make it clear, all I am trying to do is go through AXIS TESTING in SimTools, i am not even interested in introducing a game environment yet. I have not set min/max values or anything like that in the game engine.

HELP PLEASE - Where am I going wrong? What have I not set up? What have I set up wrong?

You have defined 3DOF in the Interface Settings when you only need two, like this: [A<Axis1a>][B<Axis2a>]

Can I check that you are using the Save button in Axis Assignments and hence only testing Pitch in Output Testing?

I also want to verify that you are only running SimTools, and not the sMC3 utility at the same time.

Ok, I will make that change. I had not seen whether it was required to have 3 axis defined in the software incase the arduino sketch was expecting to see 3 input commands.
Correct, only output testing. I was just trying to induce some movement and instead of complicating things - 1DOF at a time to prove things. I have tried with Roll (1 x in reverse) in the same manner but no difference to outcome.
Correct. Test with SMC3 utility, shut that down, open SimTools, test there.

I would suggest that if SMC3 works as expected then there is a problem in communication, check usb cord, comport and the like.

If SMC3 utility is working correctly, wouldn't that prove the COM port as long as its the same and the USB cable?

Hopefully its as simple as have 3 axis in the command line...

Any last help, hints or suggestions? Anybody with skill and knowledge willing to remote into my PC and see if they can help me?

I am pretty much at the end of the motion idea with nothing really to show for it. I am stumped and frustrated and don't have any idea or direction of what i am doing wrong for things not to work. Its dam disheartening and frustrating but I don't feel like I have anything left to try. I don't like giving up! Lol

Do you get anything from axis output testing when in "(a) Axis Output" mode?

Hi @yobuddy, thanks for the response and a massive apology for the delay in response. Life got in the way and a PC rebuild was required for another reason...

So I have started from scratch effectively and everything is freshly installed. Confirmed that SMC Utility Tool is showing response from the motors BUT still the same issue of no response from motors through SimTools.

In answer to your question - no, I don't get anything from output testing when in "(a) Axis Output" mode.

Can you confirm if I need to go through the arduino code and comment out anything relating to a 3rd motor? I am only specifying 2 x axis in sim tools as suggested by @noorbeast

    Your settings look right.
I'm not sure if you need to comment anything out.
    It's been a while since i played with SMC3.

What antivirus and firewall are you using buddy?

    @James Robbie,
Are you running any firewalls or antiviruses that may be blocking UDP communication?

I'm not running anything special or abnormal. Only running Avast on minimal install settings and Windows built-in firewall

I will disable both and try running axis testing again and see what happens. Didnt even think about that stuff potentially blocking or stopping things

Right, testing - disabled Avast and Windows Defender Firewall - no change/no movement

Played around with a couple of other things as well and still no movement. Will pull all wiring AGAIN and make sure everything is wired as per the SMC3 diagram for a MM again...

    :sos o_O

Try Add Interface 2 with settings:
    upload_2017-12-17_20-0-52.png

And run SMC3Utils in UDP pass tough mode
    upload_2017-12-17_20-3-49.png

Try Output test with running SMC3Utils

    Hi again James,

You may remember me and the help you gave us with the motors etc... Well, now I am in the same boat as you. SMC3 utility works perfectly, however no motion from output testing.

I have discovered though, that when I look at the "tools" area of the Game Engine the IP address shown in the top right corner is 10.0.0.211 which is different to the 127.0.0.1 that I keep seeing in the instructions. Yobuddy says as I am using the one PC to drive everything it should be set to 127.0.0.1. We can't figure out how to get the IP address shown in the tools area to reflect 127.0.0.1, as I am thinking that this is the issue.

I am curious, if you are only using the single PC setup, what does yours say?

    Cheers
    Richard

The IP address shown is just a label of the IP address of the PC GameEngine is installed on.
The one used for communication is the one that GameEngine has for its settings.
Click 'Manager IP' on the 'tools' page in Game Engine.
That's the one it is using. (and it should be 127.0.0.1 for a single PC setup)

The one shown in the apps the IP address of the machine the software is running on.
Its handy for connection a 2 PC setup together.
Enter the IP address of Game Engine in Game Manager (and visa versa) and your all set.
    Sorry for the confusion.

Hi, @Radioproffi, thanks for your response.

With regard to the Utility software, do any of the settings matter when its set to UDP pass through mode? Utility settings.PNG

I have tried what you have suggested with the above attached settings and I'm not getting any visual changes in the utility software nor am i getting any movement
