Hello everybody, this is my first post here but we (me, my brother and our friend) have been following this website for a while now.

we are new to building motion simulators and we are going to try build RacingMat`s motion simulator (Thankyou RacingMat for the very well written tutorial)

we were wondering if this type of motor could be used, if not could somebody explain why just for our learning purpose

    http://www.electricscooterparts.com/motors24volt.html

also are wiper motors the very best for their budget range
    thank you for any help

For a budget wipers are not bad think @RacingMat was using 24v truck wipers at 12v, think there was a link in his post mate. Just be sure the ground in the wiper is isolated from the body. Good to get you going can always change them out if you require later.

I personally use 12v 200w worm gear units from MotionDynamics , only on a seat mover thou.
If you get two strong motors that spin at the same speeds you have got a good start, dont be afraid to experiment and have fun.

Sorry looking at your link, need a gearbox to increase torque, so these ones might be worth a look at "24 Volt 350 Watt Electric Bicycle Gear Motor" at 24v - 420rpm so you can sort of say at 12v they will range from about 200rpm , nice and fast be nice to know the output torque , need 10Nm minium is my opinion 20Nm is nice 40Nm is briallant.

Depending on the motor controller you are using a 12 volt motor would be the best starting point coupled with the ever reliable Jrk 12v12.

Just remember that DC motors are rated at so many rpm per volt, with most geared at 25:1. Ideally your output speed should be upwards of 150 rpm.

If you try and run a 24 volt motor at 12 volts you will halve the output speed and hence the performance of your sim.

If only Pololu would make a 24v20, 500 watts per motor we would all be building 6dof Stewart Platforms.

If you get wipers, stay with 12v only, dont try to run 12v through a 24v motor, you get half the speed and half the torque. Using a 24v motor on 12v is a waste.
As @eaorobbie says, teh bigger worm gear motors are the preferred option.
A large passenger car wiper will be a good start, make sure you earth isolate the wiper properly.
And yes @shanothegreat says, the JRK is the better controller here, and the simpler, granted it cost a bit more.
@shanothegreat , http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/prototype-6dof.5045/ 6 12v wipers on a 6DOF. granted they use arduino, but 6 jrks would do the job, even using the 12v 200 watt motors with 25:1 boxes equates to about 200kg lift. Piece of cake.

Racingmat thought a 24v wiper would be stronger than a 12v. Not necessarily. All you get is half the speed and half the torque and slower motion.
    Use 12v for 12v.
