    Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to start regarding a full motion platform for MS FSX?

    Many thanks

Not sure if this helps but I need something as easy mechanically to build as possible, I'm fine with electronics. I'm based in the UK and it needs to be wife friendly. What I mean by that is something that doesn't look like I built it from parts from the scrap yard, wires hanging all of over the place, etc!

Well then, have a try here!
Or if you google flight simulator site=x-simulator.de you will also find a lot of threads on this topic – there might be the aswert to your question (which I don't really know).

Hello Darrenkarp, as for 58 views, a good proportion of those views may be members thinking about what to write.
Firstly, go through the threads and look for some build(s) you may wish to design yours from.
Secondly, are you planning 12,24 or 240 volt motors. This will determine the cost. It can be done with either. 12v is more than likely the cheapest.
Thirdly, control boards, the Pololu 12v12 JRK is the easiest to set up and will control a 12v motor of up to 30 amps peak.
Forthly (should have been first) what sort of budget are you trying to maintain , then add 40% for mistakes.
From that, you can then have you questions answered better.
    Have fun designing!
    Cheers, David.

Look at the joyrider mate best for flight, dont look at the expensive joyride
Its about $15 for the plans and look a tronics post to see how to make it a motion one.
    Or Buy one.

    Thanks for the reply David.

As a haven't a clue what advantages / disadvantages are between the various motor voltages and what implications they have I would'nt know where to start!

Is there some kind of newbie guide in basic hardware selection?

    TIA

not really a beginners guide for hardware.
12 volt motors are usually the cheapest. Start with what you can afford. Windscreen wiper motors will move a joyrider frame, winch motors like Aldoz and Eaorobbies are definitely the go if you want BIG movement especially if you are looking at flight sim, but a tad noisy, just turn up the volume more ;D . You will need to make your own lever set up. look into these guys posts.
I am currently testing a large worm gear style 12 v motor http://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-d ... orque.html and again you will need to make your own lever to fit. These are good motors and have heaps of grunt, but still testing.
The basic start would be the Pololu JRK 12v12 for controller (one per motor).
The basic electric motor would be a wiper motor from a medium to large sized family car, no particular model, just cheap.
The basic frame for flight sim, the joy rider as eaorobbie has stated.
Maybe this will help a bit.
    Cheers, David.

sorry darren all there is, is whats in the wiki docs and peoples posts, I was writing a general guide for first timers to get x-sim running, but got lost in buying and moving house.
I need to start a new post and post out the info i have written (7 pages) and just ask for help, see i can write everything for the jrk, k8055 (even though its got a bad bug, still gives ya some kind of motion, ardinou (but custom code causes info issue), but come to a halt in writting the avr guide (because my h bridge was a fail) and the scn5 (they just too expensive to play with).
So if ya need a hand in setting up the jrks, just pm me and i can send ya another incomplete guide but most of the info is there for the jrk, just havent had time to update or even use my own sim.

I was actually searching for the project ooaoo just digged out again. Have a look here, darrenkarp. This is a very nice flysim with plenty of innovative ideas for leveraging! And it's mobile :D

Looks more complicated to put together than a joyrider, but if you are stuck for room and know how to put it together, go for it.
    :)
