    hi,

I see there are two different models of pgsaw 160-180rpm motors. I'm still unable to post links but one has a silver gear box and the other (seems often the recommended one) has the black and more square gear box.

    Does anyone know the difference?

the difference is a couple factor's....One is a 25:1 box, the other is a 21:1 box

The Black gear box has a flex coupler style connector in between the motor and the Gear box,

The Silver gear box has a Long Spiral cut pinion that connects directly with the gear box main gear.

Also the mounting position is completely different.

there are multiple pics on my PB if you care to surf around,

hey Nick, i feel silly but not sure what PB stands for. I looked through your profile page but didn't see anything.

Anyways, the main question is performance and which is better? Since i haven't made any mounts yet that is not important.

I see you're in Winnipeg. Not sure if you ever come west but i am right on the highway near the alberta border in an old western saloon (with 3 sim rigs ready to rock).

Thanks Noor, but the PB was actually meant as Photobucket. lol If you click on any of my pics it will take you to my Photobucket page which has a few more pics of the motor's in question.

Buddy's rig which was built with these motor's still sits in the corner not 100% finished, buddy has reluctantly neglected to finish it and there's not much I can do except nag from time to time. lol

I honestly didn't notice the 21.6:1 rating before we bought, or maybe he didn't even have that rating listed back then, but overall the motor's are very close in performance to the Standard gear boxes, I have often thought of how well that large pinion would work in comparison to the smaller worm gear on the black boxes but either way these would work in a pinch if need be.

Great thanks for the info. I think to be safe i'll go with the black ones that seem most recommended. Then the 25:1 will be the easiest to match other people success.

thanks again for all the advice already.
