I didn't bookmark a post or article that I thought I did awhile back. It talked about what power supplies NOT to use and use X instead because JRKs or motors could fry.

Familiar with the DIY hp server PS mods, but would like to understand the aspect of correct PS interfacing with JRK/12v dc motors. If anyone has a link (tried searching various terms) or a description about which power supplies shouldn't be used with JRK/12vdc, much appreciated.

The often used alternate to server PSU is 12V LED PSUs, which are far less likely to be tripped out by spikes than server PSUs.

Thank you, that's a new one for me to, I didn't realize people were already going the LED power supply route, that's basically what I'm trying to figure out, which LED PS supply design would work correctly, as there are many robust, low cost 12v high wattage power supplies nowadays.

Basically, I'd rather spend $30-50 on a ready to go 12v supply with appropriate AMP/Watt rating than $25-30 on a server PS and have to use more time soldering. Good to hear people are doing this already.

I'm not sure what exactly I'm looking for since my searches yielded nothing, maybe it had to do with switching VS non switching power supplies, or "regular pc" power supplies. I just recall that advice that using the wrong kind of power supply would fry the components. DUH : ) but the article was related to motion simulators and it's driving me nuts I can't find it.

Now that you confirmed people are using such supplies, I can steer my searches towards finding some popular ones in use for these purposes. Thank you!

Guessing I'll be back in a minute with some good posts related to LED power supplies :)
