This site gathers a Motion Simulator Community and provides a forum for DIY Motion Simulation Projects.
You can also find a software – SimTools – which allows you to run your simulators with various games.

If someone decides to build a motion simulation platform and control it with his own code, this is completely acceptable and the members here should support him and not just drive him off.

Unfortunately this is exactly what happened yesterday and his project is gone now.
This is not fair to him and it's not the usual open, supportive and friendly behaviour that we cultivate here.

If someone is clever enough to build hardware and software I expect from the community the same welcoming support.

    Thanks

I am sorry I brought this up, this was my mistake and his project is deleted because of me, I didn't wanted to end like that..

Can I at least explain myself?
I just wanted that he elaborate some more things about his project, because his project topic contained only video of his simrig in motion without much details about what he did, what software he used and how he uses it, he was just thanking some users here I think @bsft and @noorbeast for helping him out making his sim work, which means that this community did help him out.

And then I saw him presenting his motion sim on other forum saying that he wrote all the motion software by himself, not mentioning anything about Simtools or getting help from our community, not in his presentation nor his video description and in that moment that didn't felt fair if we are talking about fairness. So I've asked him here to explain more what does he mean by "I wrote all motion software myself" - because If he did wrote his own software and got help from our members here at least he could then share his work back, that would be fair.. It's was just an explanation I wanted to ask for..

But I have should think better how to express myself, I have nothing against the guy so @John Hien Nguyen I am sorry because all of this and I would like @value1 to bring his project back so he can continue with it and we can forget about this situation.

I don't want this debate to continue further and I apologize to @value1 for all this, I wasn't thinking right..

I agree with this point and asking for further info about it
"And then I saw him presenting his motion sim on other forum saying that he wrote all the motion software by himself, not mentioning anything about Simtools or getting help from our community, not in his presentation nor his video description and in that moment that didn't felt fair if we are talking about fairness. Video description doesnt concern me, but someone apparently stating he wrote the motion software himself does.
We have asked for an explanation.
We didnt get one, now this has been tagged to me.
I asked for a link and apparently it has been deleted off the other thread it was seen on, I tagged John and asked for an explanation as to why.
Now this thread has been started and his build thread gone. I did not ask for the build thread to get deleted, all I asked for was a reason and or an answer as to why apparently there is concern with the statements.
Nows it turned turtle and the other forum thread and user name has been deleted and the thread here is gone.
question should be is who deleted Johns thread and why.
If john wiped the info, then unless he has stated to someone he is insulted, then I would say its an over reaction and he is up to something.
There are some of us here with more to loose than just a build thread info.
So maybe a proper explanation is in order.
There has been a few people exposed over the time I have been here and previous forums. Its correct for members to ask for reason, not just be tagged because someone had a "pork chop attack" and deletes everything.

@value1 , so who deleted Johns thread then?
    Why doesnt John answer questions?
Support or not, if he had half a backbone, he would be on here justifying why he did what he did.
I suggest you be more cautious as to questioning members here as to why something happened. You still give no clear reason except that we do not support because several of us DID support him and help him. Now he has been exposed for something and has not replied but threads have been deleted. That just shows he is up to something or to gutless to back up the claims made against him.
This is not a " he wrote his own info or built it without help here". Its a claim against him publishing, of which has been removed as to why he claims to have written his own software and apparently mentioned no support from people here. Go figure
So wheres his thread now? Hmmm?

I just want to clarify that John reportedly said he wrote his own motion software and he did, he shared it via the link that was on the build thread that was subsequently deleted, but that video can still be accessed via Youtube. No software author is under any obligation to release code unless they choose to do so:

You can also see John's rig running in conjunction with his software here:

Did John get input from this community on his build...yes he did and as I recall he expressed gratitude publicly for it on his build thread. But even so it is not at all unusual for any of us to say 'I built my own motion sim'.

I am guessing it is only admin and a thread author that can delete a thread. I can only presume that in this case it may be John who decided to do that, but I don't know for sure. For me it is the choice of any individual to engage or not engage, to choose what they share or not. Can an open community like ours be taken advantage of, well yes it can. However I don't think that was the case here with John.

that still doesnt explain why threads were deleted and why the like of @value1 started this thread.
I am not prepared to put up with
"If someone decides to build a motion simulation platform and control it with his own code, this is completely acceptable and the members here should support him and not just drive him off."
we didnt do that, yes he wrote his own software and as far as I know changed to Simtools.
    we DID support him.
How about I deleted all my thread info?
I am sure several people would LOVE that!

EDIT , again if he did use his own software they why did he go and hide by deleting his threads?

I guess that is the point @bsft, it would be a huge loss to the community if you chose to delete all your threads, and the same is true of all contributions, but the way the forum is set up that is entirely the choice of the thread author, for their own reasons.

I guess is it called "Presentation of Motion Simulation Projects" and not "Presentation of Motion Simulation Projects using Simtools"

I too saw John's thread and I did not really follow it so I am not sure of the semantics around it. I know I found xsimulator from following other peoples threads (away this forum), whether they mentioned simtools directly or not, and If someone "does" claim to have wrote simtools, any links they post will likely lead back here anyway.

As a new user, I have found the whole community to be extremely mature and fully supportive. I guess if John chose to up sticks and leave then there may be more to it than is obvious. You can't please everyone I guess, and echoing what @prodigy said, I can't imagine that anyone said "OI!! Show us your program or get lost..." It was likely asked more out of interest, like when we want better pictures of a new build or DIY device...

I read threads on making DIY shifters, but I don't think anyone posting those threads would be offended if I then made the exact same device, so long as the original source was quoted. In fact, I think they would pretty pleased it has an audience.

Oh well, we all make mistakes and life wouldn't be the platform it is if we didn't learn from it. And the loyalty shown is worth a million or more. And you are right @prodigy .
gents like @noorbeast and @bsft contribute greatly to this forum everyday and we are grateful for all their efforts so the question you asked was well placed. Perhaps poorly communicated statements were made with no misaligned intentions.... And as @bsft said, why is the thread deleted?
I, for one, was following his build...

My first mistake here was that I assumed he was using Simtools, but I was not the only one who thought that too, in his project topic there was only one video of his rig in motion saying he was using 70% power and people asked him questions about it, I think @Nick Moxley said something like "You are using 70% on Main Level, you should surprise when you put it on 100" - or something like that, so it was also confusing what software was he used.

Now thanks to @noorbeast we know that he has his own software indeed, which is great - but unfortunately for me, that video of his software was not in his project thread in the time I asked him to elaborate more about what is he using - and even though you said it was there and eventually it was deleted - why was it deleted? His video is public on Youtube for everyone to see, why would it be deleted from here?

I didn't check the facts or his previous postings before or his youtube channel, which was my mistake too, I just remembered he had his project opened here, and there was not much information beside the one video, so I got straight forward here and asked him - but I was not accusing him for anything, that's why I waited for John himself to respond. I don't know what was written after me, if anything was even written, I wrote my post in the evening and in the morning the next thing I know this thread was opened and his was deleted which I never wanted. John could post the video of his software and everything would be fine.

I wish people could understand my confusion by thinking he was using Simtools and then on other forum seeing him saying that he wrote all by himself - I got confused in that moment, thinking it was unfair to our community and I did mistake before checking the facts. As @bsft stated, there were numerous times when people came here, gathering help and informations or even asking for funding, then walked away opening their own sites or kickstarter projects giving no credit at all to this community and people here.. My mistake was done based on that and I will learn from what I did here. They all have right to do what they want and I will not stick my nose in other peoples business again.

I also apologized to John on the pCars forum where he presented his rig, I hope he will understand the situation and return with making his project page again - if @value1 can't bring his thread back.

I can't do much more than that, can't go back in time..

In dubio pro reo. So choose your questions and assumptions carefully.
John has provided footage of his software. Believe him or not – that's up to you.
It is up to this person who deleted the thread to decide to bring it back or not.

I understand what you're saying and I already admit I was wrong, but there are some facts and at least I can explain myself..

    No he didn't, I'm sorry.
In the moment I asked him a question there was no information about him using his own software nor the video about it. If that footage was there, I wouldn't even make my question in the first place and everything would be perfectly clear.

Thanks to Google's cache, we can see his project thread from 2 days ago and you can see it yourself that this footage and information about him using own software was NOT there. There is also my question and few posts afterwards which I also haven't seen until now..

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...dof-simulator.6384/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=hr

So, NO - I don't believe he provided that footage.

YES, I am guilty because all of the situation, I've expressed myself wrongly, I've apologized myself, but I'm not a liar, I know what was there and what was not..

You would not and could not know about the motion software from that page @prodigy, as there was an earlier build thread that covered the motion software and everything else about the build, which has also been deleted.

I certainly can understand and don't blame you for a question about clarifying what motion software was used, nor do I think you could have done more in acknowledging there was info you did not have that led you to a particular conclusion.

In the end it would seem John has chosen to delete his threads for his own reasons. I don't speculate on those reasons, as it is an option we all have. Nobody has to agree with such a decision, we can be sad about such a decision, but in the end it is the choice of an individual and I respect that.

read your own information then, you started this thread pointing fingers and looking to blame why a thread is deleted.
Well then, look up if any other threads have been deleted recently then and look for someone else to have a go at as well.
This is no longer a "software" matter. You have opened a hornets nest , well with me you have, not others are as confrontation, so enough with the political statements and links and stop putting up threads like this.
@progdigy, you were right to ask what you did, do not feel blame for this, if an author dissapears like he did, then he is up to something. Otherwise John would have got on the thread and explained himself, not just"vanished".

hmm, to enter that kind of discussions my English is not as well as it should be, the only thing I would like to say: this discussion seems to be a dead end or a "stymie". Perhaps we should go back to our daily routine?

As others have mentioned, everybody makes mistakes.

All I can say is that the members of this community have been extremely welcoming and helpful. And this forum is the friendliest I have ever come across.
