    Hi there,

First of all, great software. Also sorry about the English, but my German is terrible!

I am having trouble getting the rFactor plug-in working on my games machine.

I tried it at work and on my laptop (neither has a suitable graphics card), and both worked after a little fiddling.

I then tried it on my games machine, which has a Gigabyte AM2 board and amd64 processor.

Originally it was running win XP64. rFactor runs OK on this, but the profiler wouldn't start (-> an error about coudn't copy the IO.dll?).

So, I bought XP home and installed that, and then tried again. Now I can run all the apps OK, and the sender will send to the profiler, and can run the test plugin with the sliders and send that to the profiler OK, and also send the wheel and pedal info, but the rFactor plugin just won't send any info. I added the rFactor test plugin to the folder also as a test, and that produces output to the console.

Are you aware of any problems with any of the hardware / software that I mentioned? Alternately, are you able to provide a plugin / sender with debug output? I tried to run these from the command line, but no console output is available.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Richard Horton.

    Hi,

Sorry about the bad post (duh!) and thanks for the replies. I appreciate your efforts.

Yes, I am admin on all my machines.
This is a fresh install of XP home + rFactor + X-sim.
rFactor is currently 1.15 although the same problem occurred when I tried 1.3
X-sim was downloaded in the last 2 weeks, so 1.6.9 (profiler)

No problem re xp64. I just included that to help the knowledge base.

One other thing: both work and laptop are xp pro, not xp home. Could this be it? the only other thing that I can think of is the amd processor (as both the others are intel) but I can't see why that would be it.
    Any other thoughts?

I sure did! I also later put in (as a test) the rFactor test plug-in, just to check that it was getting output (which it was). I also tried removing the other plug-ins included with rFactor (which made no difference).

Could you test using LFS (demo works as well) with the plugin, in order to see if it is a rfactor exclusive prob or not, please.

I downloaded and ran LFS with the plug-in and it works fine (after putting in the correct settings in the config file).

So am I correct in saying that from that result we established that it is the rFactor plug-in that is causing the problem?

I am unsure how the rFactor plug-in and X-sim app connect. Should I have these apps in specific folders in order for it to work?

Do you have any more ideas?

Is there any way to get the plug-in to output info to debugmsg or similar?

Alternatively are you willing to let me compile the source on my box? - that way I can add in debug output code etc.

Well, as the problem is somewhere to do with rfactor, and we know that the lfs sender plugin works, it is more likely that the rfactor sender plugin works (maybe!) and that the problem lies with the rfactor plugin itself (xsimplugin.dll).

So I would need the code that makes the xsimplugin.dll.

I have successfully reworked and compiled (in vs.net) an rfactor plugin that was based on the example that they gave, but with the elements that I was interested in, so I am confident that with some tinkering I can get yours up and running.

What I was thinking was maybe to combine the example and yours, and so get console output of the things that are being sent.

Can you explain to me briefly how the rFactor plugin connects to the rfactor sender / x-sim? Does it look for a process with certain characteristics?

... or not. Apparently I need special access. Is there any way I can get access to this? Solving this problem is really pivotal to my project, and it would be a shame to have to develop my own when you have something that is tantalisingly close to working.

    My Motion Simulator:
    DC motor
    hello,

i have the same problem with rFactor. But it's very crazy !

I use on every pc the actual rfactor demo (1150) and the x-sim soft.

    i have now 3 pc' :
    office-PC =Intel Duo 6300,XPhome,1Gb Ram,Geforce 6600GT
    old one = Athon 1Ghz ,512Mb, ATI 7500
    new gamer = AMX X2 4000, 2Gb Ram,Geforce 8500GT

if i start the force sender on my office-PC and start then rfactor,
the plugin/Profiler works well with all other two pc's !!
it's the same with the old one (very slow)

if i try it with the new bought PC, installed gamer pc
i get NO effekt (up 21) on a other Profiler PC !! (i get the controller infos)

It's allway the same config !!! WinXPhome, the same rfactor,
the same X-Sim Soft, the same Force Sender config, Directx 9.0c,
    the same Profiler config.

the only difference is that the new PC have an AMD Duo X2 4000 CPU
and a Asus M2V MX SE Mainboard with VIA chipset.
changing and reinstall the Geforce 8500GT against the 6600GT
    nothing changes.

It stupid for me, because i buy the new pc to free my office pc.

    Any new ideas ?

    now it works !!

i don't know Exactly the reason for the problems.

    What did i do?

    i have an old pc with a athlon 1G SockelA, 512Mb SD-Ram,
a Radeon 7500 videocard with win2k where the force profiler
with the plugin works and send the data to my office Pc with the
Profiler. very slow pc. it not funny for gaming!

    my new gamer pc have a AMD X2 4000 2Gb DDR800 Ram and a
Geforce 8500GT 256Mb running first with XPhome and then
formatting harddisc an installing Win2K. There i have the problem that
i don't get any data in the profiler on the Profiler office pc.

    yesterday i try this:
deinstall alle drivers in the software section on the old pc
then i connect the old pcharddisc to the gamer pc and install
all neccesary mainboard video-card drivers, direct x 9.0c.
change user, pc name IP Adress to the old values.
And now it works !! i get the data on my office pc
only start the Force Profiler with the IP and rfactor plugin,
    start the game.

    bye Dirk

OK. Both of these run happily on my machine.

Here is a zipped version of my first test dll, which is created by taking the example 2 project from ISI, and merging the x-sim code from example.c into it.

    [IMG]XSimTestPlugin.dll.zip (11.33 KB)

On a hunch I took it one step further, and made the example.c almost exactly the same (except for the name reported). Here's the zipped dll:

    [IMG]XSimTestPlugin2.dll.zip (9.1 KB)

I have posted the source from this second version to the moderators as I wasn't sure I should be posting it here.

So, where does that leave us?

All is the same, except for the machine it was compiled on (mine is AMD64 - AM2 I think), the compiler version (7.1 vs 8), and the project file, (I discarded yours as it had a lot of extras from the new compiler version, including an affinity for cpu2 - anyone know if this would stop it working?)

    Regards,
    Richard.

    @Dirk

    Gruss
