This will be a post in regards to a Motion simulator that I bought a few years ago.
It was manufactured as a M-4 motion theater simulator. I have moved from Idaho to Utah USA and it is in storage back in Idaho. Soon it will be moved to my new Location.
    Specification's
    2000 LBS
    12' x 6' X 8' Tall when in operation
    for 2 people
Will fit through double doors (like a mall entry)
On rollers with 4 anchor post to level it out once setup.
works on 110 volts 15 amps
Will do a full 360 roll
+20 or -20 degree front and back motion.
5 point harness to hold someone while upside down.

Right now it will go a movie clip and can be programed to follow the move of the movie.
So you can have flight clips or roller coaster clips and it get to be a fun ride.

My problems have been issues with old commercial software I can not gain assess to the setting on the motions controls. so I cant tweek any of the parameters.

The ride starts out fine but wont complete the ride because it has to many errors in the feedback. so it locks up.
I have had a friend involved and he thinks its a bend shaft and out of balance. If he is right i'm confused.
Because when you gain the perfect balance as soon as you load it up with people you are now out of balance. So then you never can get it right.

These have been around for years with success I just need to find the glitch.

So while im playing I might as well add more interactive controls and make it a interactive unit.
I have pictures on my other computer but I have a video posted on youtube and you can see the outside video of the movement from one of the movies.
Yes it does the full 360 roll.

So I will need to see if I can find some hackers to break in on the software protections. operating under Windows 2000
(I understand the protection installed to keep the rides protected.)
I just need to access the motion control settings.

Then my next challenge will be installing new software and two computers running through an 8 wire slip-ring.
3 wires bring power into the cabin so the remaining 5 wires will be the communication to the outside computer. (Ethernet or ?)

    Here my youtube video

Thanks for looking more picture and more details will come when I have this at my new location.

I do have this picture of the unit in my old driveway.
    m-4_on trailer.jpg

To big for sitting in a bedroom. Once you roll it off the trailer, it rolls right into a garage
    Did I mention 2 DOF.
    Thanks
    Again

    AC motor, Motion platform
Looks like the hard bit has been done:thumbs. It may be possible to retrofit some of the electronics and drive it with a standard micro controller (Arduino etc) and simtools, although you would have to write some code in the Ard to enable the continuous 360 movement as simtools does not support this as standard.

Looks pretty cool, I'd like to know more about these M-4 devices. Are they exclusive to the states, and are they just for videos with motion (except for your project of course)?

@SeatTime Yes i agree the hard work has been already completed........ At-least in design. Now to find out why it locks up.

@dontcarefilmer " You will see them from time to time ranging from 10,000 to 60,000. I know another break off of the company did some marketing over seas.... he went bust. Nice guy to visit with.

    Thanks

I just saw some other models built by one of the guys from the assembly line of the m-4 units.
He is trying to keep this idea going.
This one fits in two doors for portable use.
I'm not trying to promote him or his design but there may be other units floating around the world.

I think to find one to retrofit is the best way.

When I was looking to buy my unit there were some in Italy and Japan. Support for them is low so upgrade them......

I think that depends on your budget and what games you want to run at what graphics settings. You can find guides like this that lay out options for different price points: http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/gaming-desktop-computer.html

Well it finally got here and what a mess with everything stripped down.... it didn't make me happy to see how far he took it apart.
3 years and in worse shape.
    But it is Here now.

The computer is giving me log in issues. It wont read the Cd so I cant do a different boot.
Either it is the Cd or the file is in a wrong format.
I will try a USB boot soon.

    Now parked in the warehouse.

I can see the tires of the trailer need to be a heavy duty tire not just a standard car tire. 350 miles to relocate to my current location was close to the tolerance of those tires.

Thanks for asking. I have been so tied up with buying a new condo, then moving! This depleted any excess funds and time. So I have not made any progress. Last week I removed the motors to setup a test with a new computer, motion card, and software. So my next step is new connectors and wiring to the new Card. My first goal was to be running in Jan I can see I will have to make great effort to reach it.
    Again thanks for asking.

I'm going to let this project go. I have had a series of changes. The warehouse at work collapsed from a snowfall last year. I don't have a garage. Then work has increased my responsibilities. I'm on the road a lot. So either I store this in a storage unit or let it go. So I will let it go.

Life often gets in the way of big projects, but lets hope your rig lives again at some point in the future, one way or another.
