The problem with the classic low pivot motion platforms is that the acceleration of the head, in the first part of the movement, is exactly the opposite of reality, and it behaves correctly only after the seat is in its final position: but, at this point, our internal ear has already been fooled! What would you think if, in a real and powerful car, when we flat the gas our head instantly goes forward and then it goes rearward? Wouldn't it feel awkard?

If we could have a high pivot, we could have the correct acceleration at the beginning of the movement and at the end.
Plus, this acceleration is felt on the butt, giving a greater seat-of-the-pants feeling.
The head moves very little because is near to the pivot point, but anyway its movement is correct

Do you think is doable a project like this? If the whole system weight is kept under control, the force needed to move the seat is low and 2 mid-powered winch motors can handle this 2DOF platform with reasonable speed.

Check out tahustvedt's project. He *has* the pivot point above his head. Probably he can comment about your thoughts. However and after all - it is and will remain a *simulator*, i.e. a compromise.
As you probably know, arcade simulators often do the movement totally wrong (e.g. when driving a motor cycle they lay inwards while the physics say it should lay outwards). But thousands of people having big fun when riding these bike simulators can't be wrong... :)

wow, that's the way to go, I love the smooth and correct movements of his motion platform, I was mentally tied to the concept of a physical high pivot point, but he went beyond that with a virtual pivot point and curved railways, brilliant!

It is a brilliant simulator and idea.
The only other option I can think of depending on how much space you have is to go for the big tomoli and have a typical 3dof mounted on top of a flat railway slider system like Tahustvedt for another 2 or 3 dof.

    Great sketches btw.
