    That's the question here...

    hey guys

Needless to say, I’m new. David gave me greetings yesterday - thanks David (bsft)

Okay, quick question(s). I have a budget of $1500 for the rig alone but it can grow. On ebay (USA) right now is a "SimXperience Stage II Full motion simulator” for $3,500 including shipping. It comes with the wheel, pedals, monitors and PC. Basically everything to get cracking.
Now, I looked into this setup and it’s not a bad deal at all if you have the money. I was wondering if it could be a good move to take this sim on and use it has a base to add some DIY stuff later. I believe the sim is about 2 years old.

Anything to look out for on this sim.. would it be worth taking a chance?

Any help here would be very good because this bugger goes off tomorrow and I don’t want to miss this opportunity.

anyway, cheers in advance for any help

    One more thing…

Here’s what I have so far.

Fanatec V2 base and wheel - V2 pedals (all on order)

With using Simtools on a Simx rig, its a wiring plug adaptor. @nclabs and @yobuddy can advise there.
Not sure on how to see if the SCN are worn or not, again @nclabs is the SCN man here on that.
Id be curious to see exactly what is being offered though.

let me add this... the budget - I have $1000 to put into a PC. I have $1200 into Pedals/ shifter/ wheel - I'll get 3 monitors $400 - I have $900 for a rig but willing to take it to $1500. That gives me a total $4,100. If I bought that motion sim I would be around $4,700 with the Fanatec stuff. For the sake of $600 more...

hard to say what the Pc is really worth, unless you price individual components.
If you want to spend $4700 on a sim complete, go for it.

I've seen this on ebay before 99% sure it's scn5s. If your a DIY and have some time and want to save some money build your own. If you want to just plug and play and have the cash then it's a decent deal. Just depends on how valuable your time is worth. I have $700-800 and a lot of time in my 2dof, $800 in PC, $600 in triple screens. I have same wheel ordered as you, and pedals along with others that's not included in that price. I already had all of that before I went motion so it was only a 7-800 upgrade for me so DIY made sense.

If your starting from scratch, the ebay deal starts to look appealing if it's in good working order and you've got cash to spare.

Either way the guys on here are great and will help along the way.

Just looked closer at PC specs he has a decent setup, esp with that 680 GeForce, I have same spec card and run all racing games triple screen at Max settings.

That g27 will fetch you around 150 on isrtv.com but and sell forums. But would come in handy while you wait on the v2 base.

I would want bigger that 21 inch screens after a while. Last year Walmart had 32 inch LEDs for 99 bucks just grab a few if those this year :).

Hey David... It's not a case of want to spend. I want to save money;) $1200 for Fanatec. I believe this is the way to go. Moreover, it has a good resale value.
The PC - no choice here but to put money into it. At least $1000 to play. Good monitors - x3 - 24" can be had for $400 with shipping. $650 for 27".
Now I need a rig... I could build my own static rig using PVC or wood for under $200. On the other hand, I could build a motion sim for around $1000. The only problem with the motion sim idea is the lack of knowledge and tools but I do have some time. Don't get me wrong, making a motion sim is very appealing to me. (that's why I'm here)
The major problem here is this sim on ebay (time)... when you add up on what I'm going to spend anyway, could it be worth going for... do you think it's worth the risk compared to what I will spend regardless?
This is why I put this thread up, otherwise I would have sat back and looked at other possibilities. Every day I come on here I get more education. Anyway, I'm not giving it the biggen, just running out of time on the ebay sim and needed experienced valuable input on this sim.

does not look like a bad deal to me...
But I personally enjoy building them as much as riding them.

thanks lads for the input. I decided not to go for the sim on ebay. I tried to contact the person again for more info and never got a return email. R well, never mind.
I've been looking at youtube videos on 2dof and DIY. I'll keep watching and learning. I think the more I learn the more I get closer to having a go.

    Again, cheers

If getting the most for your money matters then I think you have made a wise choice @bosmeck.

As you have already found there are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful sim gurus here who make building a DIY motion simulator both affordable and tailored to your individual needs.

The real challenge is choice, as you have so much of it if you go down the DIY path, which can seem daunting at first!

thanks mate... So far, in looking at this site for ideas, it's becoming clear that the traction loss seems to be a cool idea along with a 2dof. So much info to take in.
