The first link is the common motor we use, Good motor.
The second one, I think @BlazinH was using something similar on his sim

For the record, I do use that kind of motor, but only to move the pitch of my seat. The motors that move my platform are completely different. I tried using this kind of motor at first but a worm gear motor's gearing is no where even close to being able to handle the stresses put on it by a 300lb. platform moving as mine does.

Wow! Your Engines seems really big. Is AC motors?
If you do not use worm gears, what do you use?

The Tarp motor you use for the seat, do you have a lever arm with it and have they much backlash ?

    thanks for the info :thumbs

Hey Eric! No, I'm using only DC motors. The only company supplying the ones I use to move my platform that I have found here in the US have discontinued them. But they use helical gearing.

And yes, the tarp worm gear motor that I do use has more backlash then I care for. But fortunately for me, the way I implemented it, it is not noticeable most of the time. And, while you can attempt to attach a lever using the holes that are running thru the shaft, it was necessary for me to weld one on. But, when I first used it, I overstressed it a few time too which might have compressed the metal teeth that is uses slightly increasing the backlash in it some. Also, I am using a 125mm lever but I really don't need it that long for the amount of moment I use. So, if you use a shorter lever than I, they may work out better for you when it comes to backlash.
Did you end up getting your sabertooth to work using serial commands? You probably will want to use that if you try this gear motor.

ok, I thought that with these engines there would be less of backlash, while the price is high I decided to try again with whorm gear but with 75/80 rpm instead of 160rpm. 2 motors for the price of one, not bad ! I changed my platform design(Evotek syle) and I think when still keeping a light weight on my engines I'll eliminate a lot of backlash.

I too have had to weld my lever arm.

my sabertooth: uh .... I used them long with the kangaroo. Never managed to implement with Arduino (serial com) I tried in analog mode but not fast enough because of the low pass filter maybe, or the ramp inside the sabertooth i don't know.

this week I tried again with SMC3 with Polulu and ......http://www.robotshop.com/ca/en/pololu-dual-motor-driver-14a.html
WoW and re-WoW what a difference! I feel all the cracks of the track in AC! So, I tidy my sabertooth in the closet and I ordered 4 Motomonsters in order to connect them in parallel. (I was on 24v and MM runs on 12v. So as you know = double the amperage)

    thanks for the info.
