The price of the Vive has been leaked as $799 USD, pre-orders will open on February 29th 10am Eastern (7am PST / 12 Noon GMT) and shipping will commence on April Fools Day: http://www.roadtovr.com/htc-vive-price-799-and-release-date-april-1st/

You will be able to link your Vive to your mobile phone and take calls and send SMS in VR.

As yet there are no clear shipping and tax costs for international buyers, but that information is expected to be released soon now that the cat is out of the bag with respect to the Vive price.

Hopefully the source is good. If its a mistake and the price will be higher then it this will be a PR nightmare for them.
Looks like Oculus will be under pressure to ship Touch with the second camera for $200 to be on price parity.

Not a bad price at all. It's going to be hard to get an April pre order.

Here's an important question, has anyone tested a lighthouse box with a motion simulator? Did it work?

So $1118 AUD + delivery. I guess not too bad in relation to the Oculus as it includes the hand controllers. As for using it with a motion sim, a 2/3 DOF 'should' be OK if the lighthouse is mounted off the sim, but who really knows:think, as it has so far only been available to chosen developers.

Amazing price compared to the Oculus. I wasn't going to commit to VR as an early adopter but with that sort of price range it's now within reach.

That's about $400 less than I thought it was going to be.

To the best of my knowledge nobody has got their hands on a Vive to test with a motion simulator.

LightHouse tracking would be similar to having the Rift camera mounted off the rig, but would be far more accurate and robut, given the design of LightHouse.

It is not known if motion cancellation is possible with the Vive, though the more open nature of the SDK is promising. If motion cancellation would be possible then the Vive would be superior to the Rift for use with motion simulator.

Because of the price point GST will apply for Aussies, though no announcements have been made yet about taxes or shipping costs.

It's just it's not the first time I've seen such pc hardware / software on that date before ;) but I'. Sure it's legit and it will be a great bit of kit!

It's going to be a great year for VR with the heavyweights slugging it out for market share. Competition drives innovation and price control which can only benefit the consumer.

I think high end PC based VR will be remain a niche market in 2016 because of the entry costs, but mobile VR is likely to hot up. GearVR will be bundled with high end phones and others will want a slice of that action.

Quality and content are king for me and I'll be content with the CV1 if I can see stuff like this:

I'm interested in VR generally as opposed to any particular implementation or system. There are merits to each system but to extract the best and the promoted differentiater from the Vive I would have to dedicate the full tracking area of 15' x 15' to an empty room (barring pc) to satisfy me personally.
Whilst I have the rooms, I don't have the room as none of them are empty. I'm interested in virtual worlds more than virtual rooms and VR treadmill solutions are currently piquing my curiosity as I believe that they have great potential, once they become more refined.

I need to get working on a VR gyroscope.

Despite my comments I will probably be pressing refresh on the HTC site on the 29th.

Just so you know Adr1ft will be available for Oculus Rift, Sony Project Morpheus, and HTC Vive. In fact other than where Oculus paid for specific game development you can expect early VR game developers to target as wide a segment of the burgeoning VR game market as possible, they would be crazy not to.

If anything as I see it the biggest constraint on first gen VR high end game content proliferation is that the Rift releases with an Xbox controller, rather than include VR specific Touch controllers, and the likely effect is that many developers will constrain themselves to that as the lowest common denominator.

The multi platform release of ADR1FT is not a surprise and makes sound commercial sense from the developer's viewpoint. I suspected as much when I saw the Steam logo at the end of the trailer but didn't probe further, so thanks to @noorbeast for clarifying the position.

HTC Vive undoubtedly offers the more complete solution at launch but the delay on the Oculus controllers is no big deal for me, especially if either system is used with a motion simulator rig. Constraining the initial game development to xbox one controllers is admittedly a more limiting factor but just a blip on the highway in my opinion.

It's only through visiting and joining this forum that my interest in VR was rekindled as I have impaired vision in one eye from a burst retina sustained in an industrial accident . Whilst it didn't help neither did it stop me working as a professional photographer (see profile picture).

I thought that VR was a no go for me but I know a bit about optics and the brain's role in image processing. Despite obscured central vision in my right eye, I can look at a blank white screen and there is no graduation or fall-off. It all looks even. Close my good eye and it's another story. Before placing an order on the CV1 I checked out an Homido headset with my mobile phone and once again there is no discernable fall-off.

Somewhat off-topic I know, but VR is a big deal for me as a lifelong geek for want of a better word.
