Hello, this may have already been asked and answered, bu the search function of the site is refusing to work.
Does anyone know or has tried to set up a sim seat and control it with a pc linked by ethernet cable from a console like an x-box 360 and or ps3. This is then getting some feedback of the game to the sim setup.
Has anyone done this and or is it feasible?
    Thanks, David.

    Hi David

Yes - this question has been asked many times - and there are many many people working overtime in diy sim forums and hombrew/hacking sites the world over trying to get round how to make it work...

Sure the data is there - there are some sims out there that are already compatible, like this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6n0c2uyMkk
Its very very nice! - but then it should be for $18,000!!

As I understand it, the problem is accessing the data which so clearly exists in the games...
Heres a few links to get you started:

The problem - and a light at the end of the tunnel?...
    http://www.x-simulator.de/forum/sony-may-change-peripheral-policy-of-ps3-to-open-t1805.html#p17349

DOH - its the usual show me the £$£$£$ - you have to pay for licence to get access to code to drive peripherals
    http://www.psu.com/Sony-providing-more-support-for-peripheral-makers--a007670-p0.php
In theory, it's just a matter of hacking the PS3 and installing a homebrew force sender... PSGrove exists, theres plenty of hackers out there working on their own software... but Sony dont want to share!! - suprise suprise... money is involved, so here is a threat!
    http://www.tested.com/forums/games/9/sonys-official-response-to-ps3-hacking-psn-permaban/6088/

One possible solution if you want to break your spine is to tap into your existing peripherals:

A second video of the same - so savage, that the gear shift falls off!

A much more elegant solution if you dont want to die ;) - watch to the end to see how it works!

Heres the thread... its a superb thread - with many excellent ideas and concepts... read it from end to end! ;)

All pretty negative I'm afraid, BUT on the plus side (unless you live in a cave),
you may rest assured that when this problem is finally solved you WILL be made aware of it!!

Until then, Deriy has it in the bag with the most practical solution available for less than the cost of a real sports car!!

    Regards

    Tim

Yes it has been discussed many times, and the answer is always the same.

Unless Sony or MS releases a Force Sender or equal application that exports data or the community hacks it, we're out of luck.

Deriy's method of recording motion is very creative, however, it is not worth doing because the motion will be very poor and inaccurate.

After you've finished hacking / reverse engineering the PS or X-Box, you would also have to do the same for X-Sim. The specification for the Force Sender protocol in interestingly not published!

I dont think I have laughed so hard as when I watched that video of the ralph guy, i appreciate the try, but after a lap you would feel like you were in a monster truck, maybe it woud be good for a monster truck game!

Righto then, thanks for that. I will forgo the frex frame for the time being and concentrate on the joyrider version I am building. I just thought that if there was a way to do it, you could build a DERIY style seat and play in front of your big tv (thats if you have one).
