    Hey guys!
I'm so looking forward to start building my own 2dof, since I got Assetto Corsa I'm addicted to it and looking at all your wonderful work I wish I was more skilled.
I'll try to learn as much as possible reading the forum without bothering you as long as I can.

    Hi guys,
New to motion sim building but not new to sim racing. I have attached a rough sketch of a project I am hoping to start soon. It will be a 2dof seat mover with future provision for traction loss.
    upload_2014-11-7_10-6-2.png

I have been a member of Iracing for 3 years. My current motionless rig includes T500 wheel, CRS Elite pedals, triple 27 inch 120hz monitors driven by NVidia 780ti in SLI and Simvibe with Butt kicker.

Welcome and good to see you are planning ahead @Paul Gallen.

Add yourself to the members map, I am guessing you will not be far away from @bsft and others, which could be really handy.

Then start a new project thread and include your plan there, as well as any ideas or questions. Plenty of knowledgeable and supportive member will then chime in with advice.

The pivot point will be determined by finding the balance point of the rig with yourself and controllers on it, with a mate rolling you on a hefty round shaft like a broom stick. So it may not end up in the exact middle of the seat.

    Hi all
Been wandering around the threads here for a couple of days and thought i should join and say hello.
I am a bit of an F1 and Moto GP nut but the wife is more like insane.
I had a birthday coming up and suggested she get me a wheel and pedals for a sim. Bloody woman I can't get her off the thing and when she saw some of the motion sims she wants one, and i am not objecting :grin.
Have a background in electronics and some very dated assembler skills which should be helpful. It will be a while before i get started building but there is a lot here to peruse so no rush. Have to decide on how many DOF i want to start with, 2 would be sensible but then i have never been described as sensible.

Will Keep lurking and maybe ask a few dumb noobie type questions occasionally, hope you all will be gentle with me.:cheers

    Mike

Welcome @MikeG and wife...nice to see domestic harmony over building a sim!

There is a huge diversity of member projects for inspiration.

For a quick look at the basic 2DOF design check out @eaorobbie's outline with measurements here. You can also review various 2DOF design options that @bsft has started here. The FAQ section is really handy for specific info such as mounting pots, arm angles and some DC motor options.

When you are ready you can create your own thread and start asking questions. It is OK to throw ideas around and to seek opinions on potential shopping list items and there are some really knowledgeable members here who give freely of their time and expertise to make building a motion simulator possible for the rest of us.

That's the first thing she said "we need 2 of them so we can race each other".

I am told it is my toy, but she wants it all the time then she complains i have too many toys.
Its nearly xmas so maybe i will have to ask for another for then, but if its for her then shouldn't i get her one for xmas?

    I asked that Q:-
NO there your toys!!! But you want to play so it must be our toys?
    there your toys.

Women, can't live with them can't live without them

Hi, well I am doing my simulator, and I have the mechanical part on the electronics and engines, I'm using arduino one famous monster shield.
What I need is the Arduino firmware to start trying, but I do not have the plugin, for rFactor. but I would atleast have the firmware to make the connections.
Greetings to all and I hope I can go on leading this project.

one Hello from Switzerland. I'm an passionated iracing L79 driver and do look now for an affordable motion seat to build "DIY".
At the moment i do have an Alu Rig from totalspanishsimracing and i will keep that so the new 2DOF or 3DOF has to fit on it.
Im at the moment to read my self trough the forum to find some ideas. In any case i thank you in advanced for answer my questions when they come :)
    Cheers

Welcome @nw8240 here in the forum! Another Swiss member :) As you already must have noticed, there is a lot of information here and for sure you will be able to change your rig from static to dynamic. Just ask and there are many active members here that can help. :thumbs

The wife continues to get greater expectations. She gets too excited and keeps ripping the steering wheel off of the desk.
She saw this pix and wanted it like that but with motion. After thinking for a while she comes up with the brilliant idea that we should have the front end of the tub without wheels or wing. Then of course we need a full replica of the 2014 Ferrari steering wheel.o_O
Its nothing that would be difficult to make, I have lots of carbon cloths, tow and epoxy, just the time component. Actually for me the tub would be a lot easier then the metal work, I have a minor problem with my welding in that i tend to get some weld inclusion in my slag. :grin

But she still says its "your toy"

I am getting a bit of understanding of the whole thing but that brings up quite a few questions. I will start a thread just for them i think.

I started to "build" my "Motion Simulator" by acquiring a 2.1 speaker set and have begun to modify the bass speaker into a tactile transducer, these are the tiny steps that has lead me here and I see the future is a wide open wilderness of possibility's .

    Hi All,
I came across this website a couple of weeks ago, since then i have been waiting for parts to build a 2 DOF sim. I have got the Ardunio and moto moster working but, i seem to have an issue with it working with Race Room Experience.I have followed Racing Mat's tutorial( Thank you) very informative. Or though I am not a programmer so some of it still eludes me.

I will keep you posted on my progress.

    Regards Simon
