I like the idea of long surge table/track. Wonder if this could offer better sensational feel on speeding and braking. Think maybe build one with 3dof on top. Thanks.

There are a number of platform axis design, but all have limitations in how long they can sustain a sensation of Gs. A G-Seat and things like harness tensioners are in my view a more practical and certainly compact way to simulate sustained Gs.

I agree g-seat type “tactile” solution is more practical and compact.
I wonder if any one has experience on both g-seat and sort of long track/table surge experience.
I looked the video and Pit’s rig and his idea that seem not really hard to implement a long and fast moving surge track (or sort of cable solution). That can give a true inner ear motion cue (acceleration and braking):
“There are two sets of end organs in the inner ear, or labyrinth: the semicircular canals, which respond to rotational movements (angular acceleration); and the utricle and saccule within the vestibule, which respond to changes in the position of the head with respect to gravity (linear acceleration).”

Yes, if you look in my build thread, my first sim had a surge table.

Just checked your video. It seems to me that the direction of your surge table was wrong.
While accelerating, the rig shall move forward (positive acceleration). While braking, the rig shall moving backwards (deaccerlation or negative accerlation).
    Do you agree?

The way simtools worked at the time, this felt the best, as braking was most felt on the transition of moving forward and then back. Hard to explain until you actually experience it.

Ok, Just did qick calculation for 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 5 sec that is 17.6 ft/s^2.
To make my inner ear motion cue correctly just for 1 second for such acceleration, I need to move the rig in 8.8 ft (in 1 sec). To feel 2 sec of such acceleration, I need at 36 ft long surge track.lol
I would imagine that to have a 15 ft long surge track, may not with that fast speed, but combine a g-seat and seat mover could yield a remarkable realism sensation. Need a solid build to sustain such force. Ofc, no monitors, vr only.

Since 2013 on simulation building, this year a lot of rebuilds, optimizations and shifted to VR only. Videos are to come soon. Also see first posting for more pictures.

not spamming my own thread but I forgot to mention that this rig is converted to a heli sim in less than 10 minutes:

hi folks, just a small update, I disassembled the complete rig and relocated it into an other room. The new size of the rig is just the half as before! :grin No sway table anymore, no extra heave underneath the seat. Whenever I used the headset these movements were causing nausea so I decided to rebuild it completely from scratch. The rig is no way much more easy to drive and makes more fun than before. Also I can move by sliding it over the floor from one corner to the other. For small races I use a projector (configuring and testing), apart from that my Pimax headset. It was a great and fun time to build one of the heaviest race rigs ever for home using, but it was toooooo big and one room was "lost". I promise I will upload a video soon, because of covid-19 I am off at the moment, so a lot of time to do so.
