I’m a little disappointed, I just received notification they’ve shipped the part. It’s taken them a week to ship it. No idea how long it will take as the tracker isn’t active yet. I’d assumed they would have already sent it.

Need to source some extension cables for the dofreality in order to arrange everything in my mancave properly, does anybody know the specs please? They want $50 for them. Not sure why a commercial simulator would come with such short cables, they barely clear the seat frame. Can just about locate the control box under the pedals or behind the seat, but neither of those locations work for my layout, one of the cables is a bit short tbh.

How did the replacement go? Turns out I have 3 of the 6 boards go bad, and they’re sending me out new ones.

What are the boards? Are they just arduino unos?

It was an easy fix, I wasn’t keen on dismantling the control box, but they sent a video explaining the procedure. All I needed was a screwdriver. I’m not sure whether it was the arduino, but I assume it was. They’re small so they came via normal post in a Jiffy bag.

Did the new boards fix everything? I’ve taken my control boxes apart now. The boards that burned out are easily ordered online for $10 each (Cytron MD13S). I had 3 of 6 burned out. I replaced those myself, but they continue to burn out. DOF has sent me new boards with heat sinks attached (hopefully they’ll be here in the next week or so). While I wait for the new boards from DOFReality, I have purchased more boards online as well as heatsinks. I will attach the heatsinks to the new boards I ordered and install them tomorrow.

I was told they began replacing bad boards with new ones that they attached heatsinks to because they had boards burning up and failing. I do appreciate how responsive DOFReality has been with the problems I’ve been having, but I do wonder how this problem of control boards literally burning up wasn’t caught before. I’ve only gotten a couple of hours of full use out of the rig since I got it a few months ago because of the burnt boards. The smell of the boards burning up is pretty noxious, to say nothing of the smoke.

Hopefully the new boards with heatsinks attached will be better able to handle the power driving the rig, but I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous about spending $5k on a rig that has these kinds of problems.

After replacing burnt boards and adding heatsinks to everything it looks like I have two bad gears/motors. Starting to question my purchase here...

For the money you paid, you could had 4 linear servomotor actuators from PT-ACTUATOR (with AASD-15A servos 750w, 150mm stroke 500mm/s speed!!!)... Serious industrial quality, not toys with DC motors...

I hope you get it shorted and that it actually worths it...

The main issue with that is that I didn’t want to have to design, source, build, and troubleshoot a system from scratch. Like most people I wanted to avoid DIY as much as possible. At this point, however, I’ve definitely had to dig in more than I expected.

There are now really inexpensive kits... even for 4DOF with traction loss...

I appreciate the info. Did I see that one would need to 3d print the case for the controller?

Also, I don’t see prices on the website.

He copied text from my Tindie store, where I offer the AMC-AASD15A controller without enclosure to save cost. I could provide that controller directly from me, assembled with enclosure for additional $30...

The actuators cost $700 each, complete with servomotor and AASD-15A servo drive, 150mm stroke, 500mm/s... ready to plug and play on the controller...

He has also kits even for traction loss that fit on existing commercial cockpits, but you have to contact the PT-ACTUATOR to ask price for it. Make sure to mention it for the model with AASD-15A servos... and give him for reference the link from this thread here so he knows what is it about ;)

Let me guess... that was quote with MDBOX 4in1 servos?

Ask again for AASD-15A servos... it is only $2800 for 4 actuators. Just don't know the cost of metal support frame for 4DOF + TL etc...

    Hi

    Buddy

Thanks for you interest on our motion kits ,3dof, 4dof.

    3Actuator which mounted perpendicular
    1 set of AMC-Nano controller
3 set of floor contact cups
    3 set of servo actuators ( 250mm/s, 150kg force, and stroke 150mm)
    3 set of U brackets
    1 set of 3in1 MDbox servo driver (750w X 4)
3 set of power and encoder cables (2meters long)
3299USD with shipping cost by air

    For 4dof hardware configurations:

    4Actuator which mounted perpendicular
    1 set of AMC-Nano controller
4 set of floor contact cups
    4 set of servo actuators ( 250mm/s, 150kg force, and stroke 150mm)
    4 set of U brackets
    1 set of 4in1 MDbox servo driver (750w X 4)
4 set of power and encoder cable (2meters long)
4999USD with shipping cost by air

We are partnership with Simtools, and thanks to their great contribution to the programings, our motion kits are plug&play, and support more than 100games.
Hope, we can take a long-term cooperation.

    Cheers!

What did I just said... ? He gave you quote for MDBOX.... MDBOX is more expensive. The MDBOX is this one here:

Instead ask for the newer AASD-15A servos if you want $700 per actuator ... its these actuators here:

I am more thinking to just use a nema32 planetary gearbox for 100usd on ali. fore those 80mm servo,s

Yes, you could. But you would have to wire the torque detection signal to limit switches instead and directly on the AMC-AASD15A controller as you would not have other way to calibrate the home position of the motors with rotary actuators...

See the external connection circled red for use with limit switches for home calibration:

    I seen this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32962968884.html

But you have to make sure the axle of the motor matches the diameter of the connector on that reducer... And the cost to make the arm-rod and supports plus labor, I don't know if its still cheaper way...
