last week I made the fine finish of my universal-joint-brackets. Here in Munich we have a company where you can rent a cabin for DIY glass shot blasting (https://www.braeuer-sandstrahlerei.de/).
It was a lot of fun and cost only 20,- € total for all 18 parts. It took about 40 minutes time.
    highly recommendable! :) see picture:

    dear community!

again some update of my project:
The last weeks I made more thoughts about the upper part of the platform and the base

As you can see I changed the design of the base – It was due to a proposal of my son - and what shall I say - we love it!
For the material of the base I decided to make it from reinforced concrete. The reason for this material is because I wanted to have a stable and heavy base and minimum of vibration noise coming from the actuators.
And last but not least - I think it will look super cool (at least in my opinion :) ).
So we started to make a mould from wood and purchased cheap concrete for about 15,- € (for 90kg) - as it turned out it was too cheap !!! so during demoulding our base cracked. I also think we have been too unpatient and didnt wait long enough for hardening.
So we decided to build a new mold - and due to the lessons we learned so far, the second mold became much better than the first one.
Also this time the concrete we used was an expensive and special one that is usually used for making concrete furniture. The price was now 117,- (for 75kg). But believe me, it was worth all the money!
Now the base is finished and we are super happy :)

The weight of the base including the reinforcement is now about 80kg – so possible to carry with two or three persons.

Hi Wickie, fantastic job, and whom would have thought to use reinforced concrete, Genius :thumbs

I am absolutely loving your build! If you end up releasing full details on your actuator I'm probably going to copy your entire build, it's fantastic :thumbs

    hello thefost,
when my simulator is ready (hopefully by the beginning of next year) I will release all construction models, drawings and sources to members for non-commercial use.
If there are enough interested people, we can organize a collective order of parts that some people can't build themselves - we'll see.

    Greetings Peter

    Hello all!

Last week I received my high-speed quality ball screws from TBI Motion!
The shop where I bought the ballscrews is called Tuli (https://www.tuli-shop.com/linear-mo...d-nuts/precision-ball-nuts/ball-nuts-sfh.html).

    upload_2019-10-4_21-40-3.png

After the first attempt with cheap China ballscrews (which I had exchanged again because of the running noise), I finally decided for the 10 times (!!) more expensive quality ballscrews - hope they are worth their money and run quietly.

Since all parts of my actuators are almost finished, I think the final assembly of the actuators can be done in the next weeks! I am sooooo corious.

Sounds great, I am keeping an eye on a few projects but right now yours is looking the most promising. If we do want to get some group buys going I'd be more than happy to help out, especially for USA based forum members.

Do you think the motors have enough torque to run a 1610 ballscrew ?

    Hi Gadget999
Its diffucult to give a universally valid answer. The question is for what kind of simulator you would use the 1610 ballscrew. In case it is a weight balanced system I would say yes, but in a 6DOF sim that carrys a platform + driver with aprox. 180 kg, I would say that would be not a good combination.
The question is why do you want to use a 1610 ballscrew?
    My thoughts about it:
    - When its because of speed: I dont think its necessary, because real 300mm/s under full load is really extreme fast. Any faster would scare me!
    - When you think that faster means the sim will follow fast and precise all position commands, then I think the 1605 is even more advantageous because the less load (torque) is on the ballscrew and motor, the faster the motor can accelerate and change direction.

A maybe real reason to go for a 1610 ballscrew can be noise, comming from the (cheap) ballscrews.

What I wrote is only my opinion based on my technical understanding - maybe I am completely wrong.

    Hi Peter,

i had a discussion about the 1610 a while ago, we think bigger torque motors will work well with the longer pitch

but until you try them back to back - you will never really know !

    Hi guys
some little update on my project. Yesterday I finished the last parts of all my 6 actuators - really all! - I can tell you guys - it was a lot, lot of work! - I think it have been alone more than 200 threads to cut!
Today I gave the Zylinders some paint (same color than the later rubber-cover - RAL 7039).

Nice work and a hell of a lot of work !!

I'm still trying to get all my parts designed in sketchup for 3D printing, I'm hoping it will all work out and be strong enough, only time will tell, its slow going as I can't stop playing on my sim as it is lol I just need to strip it down and then I would get going a little faster

    Hi all,
    some update to my project:
This week, my son an me started the final assembly of the actuators. And I can tell you its such a good feeling to see the work growing and to see an end of the long tunnel :)
Today we also built a simple wooden upper frame, just to be able to fix the 6 actuators provisional on the base and see the first time the overall dimensons- I can tell you guys, the simulator is really really huge and looks somehow dominant in my living-room - (luckily I am already divorced - otherwise I would probably still have that in front of me now :grin ).

liking the rig you have built

are the top and bottom triangle shapes the same size ?

what are the lengths of the equilateral triangle ?
